this person "A2J"
http://userscripts.org/users/53515
seems to have a script running that is downloading other peoples scripts from us.o then reuploading them as his own, and adding "by Dark Hackers" to the title of each script, god knows what nasty code they are inserting into the scripts

Topic: Userscripts.org discussion / Is it ok to solicit?

I recently found a cool new online payment gateway system called TrialPay, it works like any other payment system, such as credit card, debit card or PayPal etc.

They dont currently allow people to take donations via their gateway, so I decided to try out selling one of my scripts via their system, the link is here:
http://www.trialpay.com/checkout/?c=46deb0a&tid... and the script is "Flickr Group Pool Admin : Warn and Delete" it takes a lot of the drudgery out of administrating busy groups on flickr.

The way the trialpay system works, is the user wanting to purchase the item, can sign up for a free trial with one of TrialPays partners, TrialPay get a fee for bringing their partner a new customer, and they then pass on a slice of that fee to the seller of the product. Its cool because the user then gets 2 things for free, and the product seller, gets money too. The great thing about it is they have a secure server where you can upload your digital products (scripts etc) and the user only gets the download link, once hes signed up for the offer. I think it might be a cool way for script authors to get compensated for their works.

You can sign up for the system via my referral link here if you want to try it out.

They have been getting a lot of positive press lately, heres a coupe of articles on them.
1) New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/18/technology/18...
2) Wall Street Journal: http://images.trialpay.com/ma/new_york_times_fe...

Ive noticed a lot of antivirus/security vendors and other software companys have started using them as an alternative payment method. In particular, Lavasoft (of adaware fame), which is how I found out about them in the first place, and theres a case study of Lavasofts usage of them on the TrialPay website.

Ive also written a blog post on the topic, in case anyone is interested.

Topic: Userscripts.org discussion / servers, costs, and ads status

hmmm just downloaded some of the scraped scripts from the downloadtube.com site (that originate on userscripts.org), and it appears each script has the following bit of code pasted in at the start.

-------------------
flickrQuoter-
By haas (editor.downloadtube@gmail.com) based on code from Downloadtube.com
For full source code, 100's more DHTML scripts, and Terms Of Use,
visit http://www.downloadtube.com
-------------------

the script name is obviously different in each case, but the "By " part is different for each script, most probably a random name generator is utilised. the other interesting thing to note is that all the GreaseMonkey metadata at the start of the script is stripped out, making the scripts pretty useless anyway. the site just seems like a adsense money making scheme.

Topic: Userscripts.org discussion / servers, costs, and ads status

i wonder if anyone else has noticed, the site downloadtube dot come has been copying the content of userscripts.org and running ads on their site, thus effectively robbing userscripts of revenue to pay for their servers, and also illegally hosting the scripts of the sites users. not only that but it also removes paypal links from the scripts descriptions, thereby robbing script authors of any potential donations.

ive written to the site owner to get him to remove my scripts, but he claims that the users of his site have submitted the content, and its nothing to do with him, and that its really difficult for him to remove any scripts from his site once they have "been submitted" where in fact it looks like he has just written a script to scrape the userscripts.org site

Topic: Userscripts.org discussion / Feature: Comment posting email notifications

you can get rss notification when one of your scripts receives a comment, via the following link
you just need to change the userid in the url to your own one, its not a very clever feed, as it just gives you the link to the script that has received the comment's page, it doesnt actually display the comment that has been posted.

http://www.feedity.com/?http://userscripts.org/...

i had a quick go at using http://dapper.net , a more advanced webpage to rss scraper service, to get the actual comment and date too, but didnt manage to get it working, maybe someone else can have a go?
