Regarding the quick-add shortcut, I've fiddled around with the URLs and this is the best I could find:

Where %s is the quick-add text. Playing with "action" would be neat, but I don't know the possible values

I second the suggestion to be able to quick-add events from gmail. That'd be great - especially if you still used the 'q' keyboard shortcut

Aha, I was going to shut off the Upper Casing, and noticed 'NORMALIZE', so thanks.
