I've actually written to the times' webmaster about this... Some people, when they read on the web, like to click around the page a lot. (It's something like 30% I think.) I'm a clicker and it drives me nuts to constantly have to close that damn window.

They replied that they're aware that the doubleclick is annoying and that they're working on a new system that is less irritating to clickers.
