Yeah, I am aware of a lot of vB addons that would help fix the problem. Unfortunately, I can't have them installed at this point, so I need a solution that members can add into their browsers to prevent them from looking at these pictures being posted by gangs of trolls and spammers.

I too have been very eager to try and learn Greasemonkey for awhile, but I have no idea where to get started. Maybe someone can point us in the right direction. Thanks for your suggestions though,

Hi all,

I'm having some trouble with users posting malicious images on our vBulletin forum. I realize that there are addons to fix that, but I'm trying to come up with a solution for the end user, for the time being. What I would like to have happen is to have all images displayed inside of the [img][/img] tag to be hidden, except for the URL showing where they are directed to - either in plaintext or on mouseover. Then, a simple button to click to show the image (and possibly rehide the image) for the user to click on.

If anyone has any ideas on this I would really appreciate it. I can provide more information if necessary.

Thanks Mikado. It does functionally work, however, the little Anonymouse JS ad window still shows up. I was able to get rid of it in Adblock Plus by adding the element hiding rule:

Alright, but that just means you have to leave a program running all the time like TOR or JAP to connect to a proxy when you just want to look up through one site. That, plus many TOR nodes are within the US, so you might have to reload multiple times before you get a working end route that's outside the US.

I think an on demand web proxy would be much simpler. Does anyone have a link to an easy guide about writing GM scripts or anything?

I'm not sure why it's "great news"...

But, sure, there are many other sites that allow you to search for torrents. I like TorrentPond as they allow you to search through many of the popular torrent sites. It looks like they have removed TS from their search options because of this block as well. I think the real issue at hand though is the fact that TS was forced into this position by the legal efforts of the MPAA by asking them to hand over search data on their users. If they can do this to one search engine, they can do this to others (and have in the past), and we should work to stop it now.

However, even though there are other search engines, I think it would be good to create such a script. For one, it would be a benefit to all TS users - both US and other places in the world, so as any data hijacked by the MPAA or other organizations would be filled bogus entries, which would prevent users from being targeted and thwarting their efforts to sue people and shut down search sites. Secondly, some people might simply prefer TS over other searches and so a script as I mentioned would allow them to continue using the site. I would love to write it myself, but unfortunately, I do not know how.

As far as the PHP suggestion you mentioned, I assume you mean something installed on a remote server? That would probably take up quite a bit of bandwidth if it was queried frequently and cause the same problem for the people hosting the file, which might result in requests for their server log files. If a script was written to rotate proxies, such as this ImageShack Proxification script (just the first example I found when searching for "proxy") it would probably be more successful.

Also, I want to say something again for anyone who has missed it. PLEASE email me one of these cookie stealing scripts that are being posted to and I will write a short post about how users can identify these scripts themselves and report the website hosting these scripts to the ISP involved. If anyone sees a script like this, please send it to me - pogue[at]30gigs.com and I'll explain how to contact the ISP where the cookie hosting script is located and give a short description on how to report these to their abuse department so they can be stopped very promptly.

BTW, I also recommend everyone install the NoScript extension for Firefox which prevents Cross-site scripting (XSS) from being loaded into your browser. I am not sure if GM scripts can overwrite this function, but it is just an added level of protection against this sort of thing.

It also might be a good idea for Userscripts.org to implement the following security precautions (if others have mentioned this previously, I apologize, I didn't read over all the posts in this thread:

• Implement email verification for registration
• Add CAPTCHAs for registration
• Scan code of all uploaded scripts for certain obvious cookie stealing techniques and then either block them or enable another user to verify them before being allowed to downloaded
• Add a "report this script to admin/mod" button to each page where a script is posted on
