Hi,

I'm using gmail to access other POP accounts.Turns out gmail pings the mailbox every hour or so.. but you can manually goto and click "settings > accounts > Get mail from other accoutns > check mail now" to check the mail.

I would request for a script that "clicks" this every 5 minutes or so, or "clicks" it every time gmail sends a new mail fetch for the gmail account itself (i beleiev this is every 5 minutes or less)
