The idea is to improve the Geenstijl.nl comment system.

As you all know geenstijl.nl is a popular website that has tons of users every day.
And the comment system they current use lacks on usability, so my idea is to improve this with a Greasmonkey script or if possible a standalone Mozilla add-on.

The first ideas for this website:
- An floating comment box, just under the actual news item.
- an comment reply function that overwrites the current template; Most users replay on each other by copying the name, date and time from the person they want to
Replay on, and then insert there comment. My idea is to make the script find these replays and automatic add those comments one level under the actual comment
They replay on. This will make discussions much better to follow.
- Another idea is to give the users a few options for changing the lay-out.
* New post first or old post first
* Comments by date (colours every day with an new colour)
* Highlight certain names (user can add names that automatic get highlighted)
* Ignore names (these names won’t show up)
* Ignore newbie's (yes/no)

- Clicking on a nickname would automatic add that name, date and time in the comment box, for replaying?

Hey Markstg, as fellow Dutchman (I guess you're) I wanted to make this script.
And so I did: GeenStijl.nl Comment Exchanger.
The features currently included are:

  • A reply button, which adds an @ with the users name, date and time. Also sets focus on the textbox.
  • Add a button to hide comments.
  • Hide newbies.
  • Hide particular comments or always show particular comments (even if they're newbies).
  • Highlight particular comments.

New features will be added as I find the time or find them useful.

I hope you like it and if you've got suggestions or problems ...
