Announcing version 12
![]() ![]() |
Hi All, I am glad to announce the latest version of this script. No improvements over the previous versions, just the fixes to make it work with the latest version of GMail. Sorry for such a late update. Regards, |

And now at version 13, with some code cleanup and the working(-again) feature of automatically hiding the searchbar-area when the search input box becomes empty. I wish I could make the searchbar-area visible soon enough when the user uses the 'gl' keyboard shortcut (for Go-To-Label). The clean workaround is to first click on "Toggle Search" to make the area visible and then hitting g+l. |

it does not work :-( |

@chaosavatar What version of Firefox and GreaseMonkey plugin are you using? Can you also tell if anything is peculiar about your browser setup? |

Hi Gurjeet,
Now :-) the problem, in both XP and Vista, is that I do not see the "Toggle Search" link. And the search area is not hidden by default. It is as if the script is not installed. |

@chucker123 Thanks for the report. I just (literally minutes ago) upgraded form Firefox 3.6 to 5.1, and have noticed this problem. So I am at it right now, and will provide an update ASAP. |

@chucker123 I just uploaded a minor fix for the problem. Please try the latest version and provide feedback if it fixes your issue. Thanks, |

You're the man!! It works in my Vista/Firefox Beta/Greasemonkey for both gmail accounts. I will test it in my XP/Firefox Beta/Scriptish tonight. Thank you again. |

Your solution works on XP/Firefox Beta/Scriptish as well, thank you. A question/suggestion!? When moving between labels, it appears that not all labels (specially user created labels) keep track of the toggle status. For example, say the search area is hidden. If I move from Inbox to mylabel, the search area reappears. If I go back to Inbox, the search area disappears. |

@chucker123 That behaviour is intended. This is because I haven't found any good way of showing the search-box when user hits the keyboard shortcut '/' to search the mails. The logic is like so: if the searchbox has some contents, then show it, if the searchbox is empty then hide it; but the exception is that empty searchbox will not be hidden iff the user clicked on 'Toggle Search' to display the search area. To illustrate this, go to a user-defined label (the searchbox should automaticalyy appear). Now delete the contents of the searchbox and you'll notice that the searchbox hides itself. |

@PanchoM I do not have access to Windows7, so can't verify it. I don't think there's anything Windows specific in this script. What version of GreaseMonkey plugin are you using? It may have something to do with the GM version. |

Oh¡¡¡ I'm using the 0.9.8.

@PanchoM That's quite weird. This shouldn't be happening. If the snippet works in one type of account (edu) then it should work in the other type of account too (public gmail). I also use two accounts, exactly the same way as you do. One for the public emails, and the other for the corporate account. And both have been working fine since version 13. |
