First of all, why all the blank lines? It just makes your code ugly.
Second, be consistent. Either always use double quotes or single quotes.
Last of all, why if(!...) ... else ...? This is very redundant. You don't need the !.

I don't know why the newlines are appearing. I don't see it in my file. I have fixed the other 2 issues.
