For a simple one, ever thought of alternating background cell colors for each row? Something like gray - white - gray - white?

A bit more difficult one. One thing that I find annoying is when I'm searching for parts that DK "stocks", but might not necessarily have in stock. It would be nice to have a check box that removes anything with "Non-Stock" but leaves things with stocking parts with quantity "0" so I know stuff that I might be able to design in.

Thanks for the update! I especially like the "Hide Columns" feature, because a common workflow for myself (and, I assume many others) looks like:

  1. Navigate to the product index.
  2. ctrl-f for the item I'm looking for (ex. Rectifiers). Get thousands of results.
  3. Select the fundamental specs (ex. Diode Type, Speed, Surface Mount) Get a few hundred options.
  4. Select a range of power specs or packages that will work, get a hundred or so options.
  5. Hide the columns which have been selected. Then, use your brain hide the columns which you don't care about. Now that it fits on screen, sort through and pick a part.
The first part of the last step should be automated! If the column only contains the word "Surface Mount" 200 times, then it is a waste of valuable screen real estate and fit for hiding.

If multiple values have been selected, then you probably can't know whether this was just a range of acceptable values (ex. anything with >500mA forward current) or an important selection criteria (ex. want maximum current for the money),in which case you'd want to sort by this column (and not have it hidden). However, if there is only one value, then this column should be removed.

Not sure how hard this would be to add (as I don't have the foggiest idea about javascript), but the persistent checkboxes would be a useful feature on the search page. The first thing I do after clicking a part type is to check the "In Stock" box and click "Apply Filters". I understand that checking this existing box on the search is likely a totally different process than creating your own check boxes with default values.

(this is a different post because it's a different request.)

bombledmonk re: A bit more difficult one, "Stocks qty 0" vs. "Non-Stock"

I understand your desire for this feature, but I think that the practice (as suggested) will be ineffective. I feel that the opposite feature (which is currently implemented) is much more useful: Remove anything with stocking qty 0 (even if theoretically "stocked") but leave in parts which are non-stock but have qty >0.

In cases when I don't care if the part will be around for a while (non-design things, just supplies) the current implementation is useful. For design, however, I don't feel that Digikey's stocking inventory is a dependable resource for determining whether a part is should be designed in, a claim which is backed up by the facts that they go out of stock and carry non-stock inventory!

Finally, the most important feature of all: Automatic updates, so that you get the newly implemented features!
This sample code shows how this can be done with Greasemonkey:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2296
I noticed that it stopped working, but I logged in later and found that it seemed to be working again (the arrows, not the loading page, maximum price, etc. parts). I just set up a new computer, and had to add this script, or I never would have gotten the update!

I'll still hold to the request. In the current market parts are in and out of stock daily on digikey. It would be a great help to filter out the stuff that is at least supposed to be stocked vs not even knowing it exists when filtered out.

bombledmonk, I agree. Digi-Key often brags of their 95% stocking level, for CATALOG items. Their is no way to locate 'normally stocked' parts on the website. When designing, you'd sure hate to miss a good part just because you checked 'In Stock' but all the stock was bought up for a part that would have worked great, and you missed seeing it 'cause the next shipment in is a week away.

DK normally has around 500,000 in stock so missing 5% means 25,000 parts happen to be left out of an 'In Stock' search on any given day.

Please consider it!

One other request: A CSV download button for any results table. Copying and pasting into Excel gives you a real mess.

I love the other suggestions here too. Thanks again Alex!

(as of 2010-12-17) There's now two different filters: Available (Qty Availiable > 0 or 'Available') and Stocked (Min Qty doesn't contain 'Non-Stocked'). Also includes an update checker (doesn't work in Chrome).

Fantastic! 'Normally Stocked' may be a bit clearer but this is great!

(now how to get the word out to the masses, that this is available)
