UI Update
![]() ![]() |
I've been working on an update to the interface for version 3.0.0. By moving the download list out of the menu and into a panel, I should be able to add some interesting features in the remaining space (like the mockup "Format info:" panel in the screenshot below). The problem is, most drastic UI changes like this one are received badly by the userbase (see Facebook and DeviantArt for good examples of this), so it'd be great to see what you think before I release the changes.
Update: Thanks for the positive response. Sadly, I won't be able to finish the update any time soon. I've got a lot of things going on in school (this is my final year) so I don't have too much time to hack away on this. 2.3.x still works fine, so I'm not too concerned. If all goes according to plan, I'll be able to look at this again after the HSC. Update 2: Life is busy, university is difficult and version 3 is completely broken in Opera and requires a complete rewrite so I'll just keep on working on 2.x for the foreseeable future. |

Looking good. I think that if you could add the corresponding fmt values to the file info popup, that would be great. |

I really like it, and think it is an excellent direction to take. Having it as a panel is not only convenient in terms of providing more space for new formats and features, but it may well prove useful for the users to be able to keep the panel open. Two things I would like to mention; Keep the main button as is is now. This is my favorite part of this script; when you are not using the download menu, the button hides neatly away with the standard Youtube controls. I'd find it important to be able to hide the panel once it is open. I'd want to be able to click the main download button again to hide the panel. Finally, thank you very much for this script. It just works and it's clean and elegant at the same time. |

I like it. What about "File size"? |

I'd say leave it as it is. I like your script so much because it's compact and fits perfectly with the interface of Youtube. |

I think you should leave an Option for the User to Decide. But Personally, I'd love to have it as a panel. I think it would work a lot better. One Request, can you Add a Normal Link to the Video instead of a Force Download? I use html5 with Chrome on an Older Laptop that can't really handle playing a Youtube Video in Flash but playing it with html5 works great and I can even reach HQ. With the Normal Link I can just click on the Ipod Link and Chrome will play it in it's html5 player without Flash or Download. That'd be great if it could be done. PS: Hope you release the Update Soon! Looking Forward to it. |

As for the video info, it's true that I can't query the actual info, but I can do a bit of guesswork based on the information available. It's just an idea at the moment. Thanks for your support on the exams. They went well, I hope :) |
