1. What can it do?

Craigslist Fusion is a plugin for Firefox using with Grease monkey plugin.

a) Quick use

After installation, go to a Craigslist site, and do a search, or click on some listing.

You should see new Craigslist listing with image previews. Mouse hovering over an image thumbnail or the post title and you should see window popup showing the larger size image and the posting detail respectively.

b) Features

  • Show image thumbnails inside a listing if there are 1 or more images for the posts
  • Show larger image when mouse hover over the thumbnail, or when you click on it. Depending on the settings.
  • Show the posting details
  • Allow you to see the map of the area when the address or the region is available. The map is embedded inside the listing
  • Allow you to see a map of driving direction from your house to the location indicated by the post.
  • Allow you to use Google email to send email with pre-drafted email templates. Save you a lot of time on this.
  • Usability including:
    • Drag any sub-window around using your mouse
    • Resize any sub-window
    • Toggle the sub-window's title bar. By default it's in the minimized, auto-hidden. Mouse over the subwindow, and it is shown on the top center of the sub-window.
    • Close any window
    • Auto docking the windows of image and posting detail on the right hand side of the browser.
    • Toggle between clicking or mouse over an image or a link to show the large image or detail
    • Allowing the large image to trail along with the mouse when you hover over the image so that your eye movement distance is shorter (sticky mode)
    • You can click anywhere to get out of sticky mode
2. How to use each feature ---

a) Preference window.

The preference window can be accessed by going to Craigslist, and at the bottom right hand corner, where the Grease Monkey icon is shown, right click, go to the User Script Commands, and Craigslist Fusion Preferences. Another way is to hover over a link to see the detail window, then click on "Preferences" link in the detail sub-window.
A window will show up. Resize it and move to please your eyes.

b) Image thumbnails
You can go to the preference window, then set size of the thumbnail (Thumbnail size)

c) Large image resize

The large image can be resize to fit the sub-window (which can also be resized using the mouse), or keep it original. This can be toggle with the preference "Scale preview image". It's more appropriate to call it "Scale Large Image" or something to that effect. I will change that later.
The image can be scaled with original ratio or just fit both horizontal and vertical (distorted). This is set by the preference "Keep image scale aspect ratio"

d) Disable large image

f you don't want to see the large image window when mouse over the photo, then uncheck "Show image window"

f) Disable post detail

The same for posting detail window using the preference "Show posting detail window"
You can always see them when clicking on the thumbnail or the "Detail"/Posting link.
The "Detail" or posting link functionality can be swapped. One is used to show the posting detail in the sub window, while the other is to show it full like the original in Craigslist.
To swap them, check/uncheck the preference "Link to detail page on post title". If unchecked, then clicking on it will show the detail in the sub-window. If checked, then it will goes to the posting detail. Future version will show the detail in another window/tab versus current window.

g) Auto layout/docking

The preference "Auto Layout Preview Windows" is used to indicate should the large image window and the detail sub-window should automatically be attached to the right hand side. The width can always be changed by using the mouse to resize the left hand size of the window. The height is automatically set. You can always drag the window around in either mode. But the preference set the default behavior when first going to the listing page.

h) Activate the image/detail window

Click/Mouse over to show large image or detail posting

Using the preference "Show detail on mouse over" and "Show image on mouse over", you can indicate whether the sub-window for large image/detail posting be updated when you point the mouse over a link/thumbnail, or when you click on it.

i) Set my address for use with Google Map

This is used for showing a driving direction from your house to the posting location. If security is your concern, enter an address near your house, such as a business address, street corner address, or your nice neighbor's address.

j) My blind carbon copy email (BCC)

If you have another address to copy any email message you send out, this can be set for that purpose.

k) Pre-drafted email templates

This feature saves you a lot of time. Go to a posting detail sub window, and click on "Manage Email Templates"
A window will show up. Resize it and move to please your eyes.

- Click on "Edit Templates" drop down, and select an existing template or the default one.

Change the template name, the content to your pleasure, and then click "Save".
You can have as many templates as you want. One for buying a car, another for buying a house, another for getting free stuff for example.

You can't change the template name directly. Changing it will create another one. Just delete the original one after that.

That's all. If there is something I missed, or you want to ask/suggest, please let me know.

For the usability features, please see below.

Drag any sub-window around using your mouse

This can be done by position the mouse over the sub-window. The navigation icon is shown on the top center of the sub-window. It is the middle icon with 4 small arrows. Use your mouse to hold it down and drag around, then release the mouse. For a non-minimized version of the window bar, just drag the window bar.

Resize any sub-window

Position the mouse on the edge/border of the window. The press down the left mouse button, and drag around. If you do that at the sub-window corner, you can resize 2 sides at a same time.

Sub-window display order

For Google map/direction, you may have to click on the border to bring it up front if it's hidden.
for other window, just click somewhere inside it to bring it up front.

Toggle the sub-window's title bar.

When the sub-window's title bar is in the minimized state, you can mouse over the sub-window. The minimized window bar is shown up on the top center of the sub-window. Click on the left button (~) to toggle the minimized status.

Close any window

Mouse over the sub-window, the 3 buttons show up on the top center of the sub-window. Click on the right most button (x) to close the window.

Auto docking the windows of image and posting detail on the right hand side of the browser.

This happens when you refresh the web browser window. The setting can be set in the preferences window. If auto-dock/layout, the image and detail windows are set on the right hand side with the height divided 1/2 of the screen height. You can resize the width as you like. Also, you can drag the window around to get it out of auto-layout state temporarily. For permanently disable the autolayout, use the preferences window.

Toggle between clicking or mouse over an image or a link to show the large image or detail

Use the preferences window, there are 2 checkboxes to let you decide whether you want the image/detail to show up when you hover the mouse over the image/link, or only show up when you click on it.

Sticky Mode

Allowing the large image to trail along with the mouse when you hover over the image so that your eye movement distance is shorter

This can be activated by clicking on "Sticky mode" on the detail window (top right). To permanently activate this behavior, use the preferences window to check the box for this. During sticky mode, the user can always just click somewhere to disable it temporarily.

Image band

For post with many images, use the left and right arrows of the images to scroll back and forth. Click on the buttons to skip half the image banner length (so you don't have to wait for the scroll).

When sending emails via Gmail I can only send one message and have to re-start Gmail. Is this the way you have it set up? When trying to send the second email my Gmail loads up to 90% and then it stops. Please tell me what to do to be able to send several emails without having to re-start Gmail and deleting my cookies. Great script.

David, please check to see if you have the latest version of the Firefox browser. Also try to exit and run Firefox again. I didn't have any problem sending emails again after the 1st time. I understand that after sending the email, the window for the email closes automatically. However, if you use Craigslist Fusion to send again, it would open another window and allow you to send again. If you want to just open Google mail to use it, then please just open another tab, and go to Google mail normally.

You may also double check to see if you have any plugins/extensions that may cause this issue.

Btw, would you please open another discussion thread to post this, and delete this issue here because it's not related to the user guide post above? Thanks.

is it possible to include the ability of inserting a picture from my computer into the body of my emails or if not then could you possibly provide that feature with your next version?

There are probably 2 ways to do it. They're not the way you described. Due to security, I don't think it'll be easy to access any picture. It probably can be done in a plugin, but not Greasemonkey script.
1 easy way is to store your image publicly somewhere, then in the email template, having an image tag pointing to that image. Search for img tag if you're not familiar with it.
Second, you can convert your image into PNG type. Next, convert that into base64 encoding. You can then use the img tag with the source equal to that very long base64 encoded image. You can search img and base64 on google to see how to do that.
