Nice improvements, but how hard is it to get the visited links to change color?? this seems like the most basic feature of a search engine, but I guess its proving to be harder than I think because after all the upgrades, including 3.0 which even provides a configuration window, I still don't get any shift in color on links I've visited. I'm using firefox 3.5.7

So it did this with the previous version and it does it now with the new update?

Sounds to me like your browser's settings might have been changed, thus not allowing sites to override or set their own color settings (Standard.)

Go to Tools, Options, Content tab, click the Colors button and make sure this is checked: "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Other than that, I might recommend uninstalling all your GM-scripts with the 'delete associated prefs' option, remove GM and reinstall it & this script, then try.

I'd guess it's the first thing, but that's just my best guess. Let me know cuz I don't mind helping you with your problem ;)

its always done this. i know about the colors tab under firefox options and its checked to allow pages to choose their own colors instead of my selecctions. i also deleted all scripts and reinstalled your 3.0 as suggested, but nothing changed. heres what i dont get, even with greasemonkey disabled, when i use google the links only shift color when i click on them, not when i hover over them, and they also dont remain in the changed color a visited link should be. so in other words, it may be firefox itself or the version i have?

i have a few ideas (i know these may also be obvious, i'm just thinking out loud)

  1. do you have FF set to delete all browsing history when you exit? if so, that would not allow links to remember that they have been visited
  2. such a strange issue. maybe it could be FF. have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the browser?
I hope i can help you fix this so let's stay hopeful and see what we can do ;)

i appreciate your efforts gabe, and i do have firefox set to delete browsing history but this is only done when the browser closes, so in theory it should still be able to attain history while the browser is in use. in any case, i tried it but it didnt work. i turned off this feature and restarted the browser and still no change in color. it was a nice thought, but maybe its a fundamental script issue to the firefox browser version 3.5.7?

no, certainly not james---i test this script with firefox v2.0.0.20, 3.0.17, 3.5.7 And 3.6 (in addition to the latest chrome & opera browsers.) the fundamental functionality of visited-link color does indeed work on all of these platforms. the customizable link-colors configuration of this script also works on all browsers.

i would really like to help you fix that if i can. here are a few things i thought might help:

PROBLEM SOLVED! what a relief, your script is fine - it was indeed a firefox setting that had to be changed. specifically, it had nothing to do with the clearing of history, instead there is another setting on remembering browser history which has to be checked and set to a least 1 day for the color change to work. thanks for your help!
