While this script worked fine for me before, recently sometimes I've been getting the search box, the "All items" list of what to search in, and the Search button showing up over the page (the header is gone like it should be, though). Pressing W twice makes things as they should be. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks.

strange, which browser version are you on?

I have the same problem on Firefox 3.6. I think it's something to do with when they added the new Explore section to the sidebar perhaps.

I'm also having this issue, and it's a pretty recent occurrence. The search bar (along with the category dropdown and search button) appear on top of everything else when Reader begins in collapsed mode (that is, with the top stuff hidden). Showing and re-hiding the top solves the problem (though it's a pain to have to do it every time). I also think it may have something to do with a change in the code since they added the Explore feature (which I'd like to be able to hide as well...), since I think this was still a problem in FF 3.5.7, not just 3.6. If I can provide other helpful diagnostic information, let me know.

I've run into the search box showing up once. is it consistent, and is it just the search box or the whole bar?

It is consistent, and it is the box, the dropdown menu, and the button.

I have the same problem on Google Chrome 4.0.249.89 beta (38071).

If I had left Google Reader in minimized mode (by pressing W and then closing the tab), when I open a new tab and go to Google Reader, the search box, drop-down, and button are floating on top of the left-hand and center columns. Pressing W twice hides the search box.

Here's a screenshot:

I've been having this exact same problem for months now. Before and after upgrading to Firefox 3.6. It behaves just as others have commented. Tapping W twice removes it, but that gets annoying to have to do every single time.

I love the minimalistic skin, though! Great job! Now if only this one little bug could get fixed, I will be quite happy.

sorry about that, I've added the three search boxes in to the list of ids that get toggled. see if that makes a difference

I installed it originally via the Better GReader extension... can you send the patch to Gina Trapani to have her update it?

If you have a couple minutes could you test it out with greasemonkey. once I hear its fixed I'll send it into LH

Just tried it out with Better GReader disabled; seems to work great.

Hi there, I've installed the latest version and it's much better thankyou! However I am still getting parts of the dropdown box appearing over the sidebar occasionally. It looks like this:
