Hi there. Read about your script on macstories.net, love it except for one minor issue I'm having, the main "Read Later" folder in the sidebar isn't showing up. Any ideas why?

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I do have some thoughts about the issue. Do a few things first:
1. delete your current copy of the script (its at ~/Library/Application Support/Fluid/SSB/Instapaper/Userscripts).

2. Install a new copy. I updated it recently. Maybe that will help.

3. Turn off all your other plugins (I don't know what else you've got junking things up...). this is temporary.

4. Go here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/images/59955 and make sure you preferences match the screenshots.

Then restart your Instapaper app.... I'm hoping that works. If not I'm gonna have to think hard on why it works for me and not you...

Good Luck

This whole issue originates because to get the folders only view, we're setting the address "www.instapaper.com/u/folder" to your sidebar, and then using CSS to restyle that address differently than where you browse in your main window.
The thing is, If you turn off Threestyled, you'll notice that you're already AT the "read later' website (in the sidebar, not the main window). You can't click that link, because you're already there... But then, because we're using instapaper.com differently than it was made for, to send links to the main window, we DO want that link active. SO my hack was to hide the original link and create a new one to a slightly different address that still works
"www.instapaper.com/u/"
It's possible, if steps 1 -4 don't fix the glitch, that the new link is not loading up for you...

my issue is that everytime I quit instapaper, when I go back to open it, my sidebar with the folders is gone. I have to click on the browsa in the toolbar for it to reappear. Why is this?

and how do you get your window and toolbar to be that black color?

It's not the script, it's Fluid and BrowsaBrowsa. Not much to be done about it by us. It's up to the developers to make BrowsaBrowsa more robust, or another developer could write an alternative plugin.

"and how do you get your window and toolbar to be that black color?"
I've got instapaper set as a Fluid Menubar SSB. That's the default color and look of Fluid menubar apps. It's just an option under the "Application Name" menu. so if your Instapaper Fluid app is called "Instapaper", look under Instapaper in the menubar and you'll see "Convert to MenuExtra SSB" choose that.

if I set it as a menubar ssb, would it take the application icon out of my dock? I would like to keep it in the dock

So it is normal to have to click the browsa button to have the folders appear?

Yea, menubar apps do not have dock icons.

I think I just found your Browsa sidebar issue's solution:

The preference setting you might check is in Preferences > > Plug-in Preferences. Make sure "New Windows Automatically Display visible Plug-ins from Previous Window" is checked

I'll post a screenshot: http://ad.vu/vjc9

you are awesome!!!! YES! Is there anyway to have a mneubar ssb and keep it in the dock at the same time?

"is there anyway to have a mneubar ssb and keep it in the dock at the same time?"

Not as far as I can tell. Is there something about the Dock icon that you miss having it in the menubar?

I'd suggest going here: http://groups.google.com/group/fluidapp?pli=1 and posting a request for the feature.

@Jessica, Just found and fixed your issue with the Read Later folder. It should stay put now. You'll have to delete your existing Threestyled, and reinstall.

I just noticed I'm having the same issue as @jessica. I don't have a read later folder either, but isn't it unnecessary? The unread tab across the top is essentially the same thing, right?

Did you read my comment just prior to yours? If so did you install the new version of Threestyled and still have the same issue?
I'm relatively sure I fixed Jessica and your problem.

No, I don't find the Read Later unnecessary. It's true that if the main window is already in the Read Later folder than you don't need the read later link in the folder view.

But here's how I think its important:
First of all, the unread tab across the top applies to all folders. So no matter what folder you're in, the unread link is already "clicked" you can't click it again to go back to the "Read Later" folder. Instapaper.com is set up so that when you're in another folder, you'd click the Read Later folder to go back there.

So that's where the need begins. Because no matter which folder the main window is in, the folder view stays (or should stay) at the same URL. The folder view is set up with the assumption that when you click a folder in the folder view that click is sent to the main window (this works in Fluid, at least).
So because the Folder view stays at the same address, where it is in the Read Later view already, you can't click the normal Read Later link in the sidebar. It thinks you're already there.

So I hacked together a solution of hiding the original Read Later folder, and creating another at a slightly different URL which still works. So now you can always click the new Read Later folder and have the main window return there.

Please let me know if my fix in the version I uploaded today doesn't work.

I just can't get the sidebar folders to look right. Actually the entire app looks different to your setup. Do you know what I could be doing wrong?

Instapaper.com has restyled itself. In November Instapaper.com revamped its site a bit. Since then any CSS that restyles it no longer works right. This includes Instapaper Restyled and Instapaper Threestyled.

I'm working to update the CSS for the new site...
