Great distro for introducing people to linux. Ubuntu except a bit more polished :)

Hmmm I'm not seeing a Live version... not the best to recommend a disk reformat just to try it out... but may be interesting for some.

This is what I used since I first had a computer:

Windows 98
Windows XP
Windows Vista (What the hell happened here?!)
Ubuntu 7 (linux rebellion)
Windows Vista SP1 (Ahhhh...)
Ubuntu 8 (After more vista trials)
Windows XP SP3
Windows Vista SP2
Windows 7 Public Beta (A real keeper)

Windows 7 absolutely kicks ass *(even on my old Compaq). I can't wait for it. Windows is truly refined. Office + Windows = Amazing. Other than price, there is no reason to use Ubuntu or OpenOffice over these. Now Internet Explorer is a different story.

The people agree.

Hehe... just a baby! ;) I've been on computers far too long to even recall everything in a single post. LOL

As per demand of Win7... I'll believe it when I see it... my beta tester budz don't have high or low remarks about it which usually isn't a good sign... but we also don't feed into hype. Having a mad rush to see if M$ actually improved something is expected after Vista troubles. ;)

Yeah you install it from within the live session.

I used the "Main Edition" from http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php , and you get the option to directly install it, or use the live option and install from there.

So far I am enjoying it :) Glad to get rid of XP finally hehe.

As for Windows 7, I found it to be very similar to Vista, except with a few different window management options. Very much how Vista should have turned out.

Still it doesn't even come close to Linux and Mac in my opinion. The power of the terminal + Compiz Fusion + Debian's / Ubuntu's awesome Package Management = Awesome. At least I get work done in Linux and Mac :P

Mines a lot simpler lol:
Windows 98
Windows XP
OSX 10.5-.6

I tried Ubuntu 7 in between switching from XP to OSX but I couldn't get it to work with the wireless card on my laptop. I run Windows 7 Public Beta and Ubuntu 9 in a virtual machine on OSX. I also just switched my 14 year old brother to Ubuntu 9 and he likes it a lot (he was using XP before).

Yeah me too. I got my first computer in '99. But I've been using Firefox since beta.

I agree. I find it hilarious how Vista made everyone run away from it (unless you're an average user who knows very little about computers of course).
Edit: I just noticed I've got the Mozilla icon for my browser. Weird since my user agent is: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.3a1pre) Gecko/20091003 Minefield/3.7a1pre
