As of right now you don't want me to rate this ;)

Neat idea... but...

  • REVOKED Deletion is quite quirky... it blew away several messages on a single delete click.
  • REVOKED How about that Cc: to self I was talking about?
  • REVOKED The preview of messages sent is a bit quirky and definitely doesn't match a manual Cc: to self

Weird... I'll have to take a second look at the code.

I'm really against this. I don't like the idea of creating duplicate messages. Plus I'd like to keep sent messages separate from received messages.

If only there was some way to get the way USO formats a message but there isn't a api method like there is with forum posts. I'm not too worried about this because this script is only a temporary fix. Right now I'm just auto-linking and converting newlines to br's. I'm not stripping any tags.

I don't really see why you are against it. Here's a proposed process.
  • When sending a message duplicate it to self, but change the subject line to include Cc: Note the space) and attach a prefix message stating who it was sent to and at what date/time.
  • On the http://userscripts.org/messages page if viewing Received Messages turn off anything that has Cc: as the subject line. When clicking Sent Messages invert the visible selection.
This process would solve the formatting issue 100% and give me a visible archive in my email of what I've sent. Granted it will double the load, if the Cc: to self checkbox was ticked and if email notifications are turned on, but would allow both to coexist on the same page. There's several ways to do this too.
I see this (simulation)...

Check it out!

One could even strip out the Cc: bit too on display. Instead of archiving huge messages in a preference you could denote the messageid list as a Cc: ... the sky is the limit here... That's why I'm here with possibilities! :)

Your proposal sounds pretty good to me. I'll get started on implementing it soon. I'd like to leave out the checkbox, because I'd like the script to be seamless and automatic. If you don't want it to save the message you could just turn off the script. I'll put a serialized object after Cc: in the subject to store the recipient user name and id and the real subject. Since I won't have to take care of deletion myself, this will get rid of that annoying error.

Whatever you think but bear in mind whether a user wants to archive a message on the fly. Also think about my requests too for Comments Fix and Post Preview... at least making the text box bigger somewhere in one of these 3 scripts and implementing those . :) I added a couple simulated screen caps above of how it could be done with the interface with this script. :)

If you feel like promoting GM_Config as well, make it a preference to turn the checkbox/button on/off or "make seamless" equivalent.

Sounds good. I'll probs get around to it(this and Comments Fix) later tonight/early tomorrow morning. I have calculus now and then I need to get some word done, but I'm otherwise pretty free tonight.
