As you mentioned, chat alerts would be useful. Another thing that I would like to see is some sort of notification for when new items appear in the feed under the "Show X new posts". Perhaps just changing the color of the favicon if there are new posts.

Notifications of messages would also be great.

Great ideas! I'll look into both.

I guess it will take some creativity figuring out how to add notifications, chats, and messages all in one tiny 16x16 favicon :)

Great job! Thanks.

I would LOVE chat alerts, exactly as they are in Gmail Favicon Alerts. Of course I use all of your favicon alerts scripts with FaviconizeTab, but with Facebook Chat alerts would be especially useful.

The primary reason for this is that Facebook Chat STEALS KEYBOARD FOCUS. No web app should ethically be able to do this, but FB Chat does. It's extremely frustrating to be working in another tab and have your keyboard input be completely unresponsive because someone sent you a message.

The only way to combat the keyboard focus problem is to turn off the notification sound, which seems to be linked to it. This solves the problem, but also makes it difficult to know when new chat messages come through, because of the tab only being a favicon. You must constantly jump over to Facebook or hover over the tab to check, by which point you may already appear rude for ignoring a chat for 5 minutes.

In short, chat notifications would be a life-saver!

Since the redesign broke everything, I'll work on adding these missing notifications into the script. I should start playing with it this weekend.

Any updates on this? Just started using the FaviconizeTab addon only to completely miss the fact that someone started a chat.
