It didn't show name and icon.

I lost two person. The pop-up didn't show the name. It worked before, but now. I currently have 424 friends. |

I am guessing from your comment that the box showed with 2 friends, but under their names it said "Cannot find friend data. Check the link below."? This is an occasional issue that I'm looking at; did the links not work then? |

oh, my bad. I was saying that 2 friends deactivate in different day, not showing two at one time. Yeah, it said "Cannot find friend data. Check the link below." and it displays blank icon, no pic. |

This seems to occasionally be the case for people who use the Facebook vanity urls (http://www.facebook.com/YourNameHere), but I couldn't get a consistent behaviour when testing. If someone with a normal Facebook address deletes you then it should act normally. I will look at making this work 100% of the time, but as the script wasn't working for everyone I just wanted to get something out that actually does work (I don't know what proportion of people have these urls, but it will work perfectly for most of my friends), and even if the name cannot be found the link should work. Now to reiterate my previous question; did the links below the name work for you? |
![]() ![]() |
Yeah. the link works for me. No custom url. Just normal url. |

So it's not actually a problem then? As I said I will look at changing this at some point to display names properly every time, but at the moment I am happy for this to just work most of the time. |

i don't know. that all i can say is display names didn't show the real name. I think I modified the script. I change the description color to white and replace "Facebook Friends Checker greasemonkey script." with "Facebook Friends Checker" |

I have just tested this and got my wife to de-friend me (I have a vanity URL).. and when I was notified that I had been de-friended, her icon and name were not displayed. |

@Matthew Tommasi: Well I can test it myself, and I can see this behaviour so I'm not disputing that. I assume that your wife does have a vanity URL, and that the link did actually work then? I do appreciate these comments but I don't view this as an actual bug, more a limitation; the script does still function. I don't get any money for my scripts, I spend my limited spare time working on them, and it's a relatively thankless task. Please be assured that I will find a way of fixing this at some point, but I did not think it a problem big enough to not list the script as it is. |

Ok, I took some time out to work on this tonight and I believe this should be working now. |

I've had the script for a few days, and reinstalled it last night with the update, and it is still giving me the "Cannot find friend data. Check the link below." message, and when I click the link below, it takes me to the Facebook homepage. Great idea for a script though! |

@AndreJP: If the friend removed you before the update then this will be the case. The new version will only show names properly of people who delete you after the update. Does the link look like a link to a Facebook profile? I would imagine that if it is redirecting you to the home page then perhaps the user deactivated their account. If this is the case, then I don't know any way to get information for that person. |

Hi znerp- I installed the script a few days ago and think it's a cool idea. I've lost a few friends, but am getting the "Cannot find friend data. Check the link below." message. Does that most likely mean they deactivated?

@hncheerios: I will probably update the about section of the script to explain this later, but he's a brief summary of the process for if someone deletes you;
If there is any hole in the logic (or indeed if Facebook has changed anything), the link should take you to that person's profile page. |

@znerp What if you used http://www.facebook.com/ajax/typeahead_search.php instead to save your friends? Store name, picture, etc in advance. |

Troy Thompson wrote: That sounds promising, I will look into that. I will be away with work this week so it might be a while before I can get this fixed though. |

@znerp I second the type ahead / pre-cache request. I am running into when friends delete they close their profiles completely or they block the people they have deleted by locking their security settings down to where no one can see them who isn't on their friends list so even taking the user id you have cached I still can't see who it was. If you pre-cache all that info as Troy suggested that would be awesome. So far the script seems to work exactly as designed. I definitely wouldn't call this a bug because the script functions exactly as designed but rather a change request or an enhancement request. |

Indeed, and that's how the script used to work (indeed, if you install the version from 20th August then it will function fine in this way if you have <400 friends). The problem was that people were getting very upset because they had more than 400 friends and it didn't work for them, so it was really a trade-off. As I say I am out of the country at the moment so don't have a few hours to spare, but as soon as I do I will look at making this change. |

I have the same situation as Andy - when a friend closes their account, I can't tell who it was (that happened this morning, and of the 600+ friends, I am dying to figure out who it was!).
In any case, thanks for this wonderful script! I also like the side benefit of seeing when friends to whom I have sent a friend request hit "ignore request". |

I have a vanity url, but I frequently receive the "cannot find friend data", and the link takes me to my own profile, so I do not know who is unfriending me. :( ...which kind of defeats the whole purpose. If I'm losing five ppl in a day, I need to see who they are to see if it's a personal conflict, a joke or quote I posted, or if it's just a Mafia Wars individual. HOWEVER! I am very grateful for the person/people who constructed this script and who are offering support for it. Thank you very much, and you are greatly appreciated!!!!! |

Sweeeeeeeeeeet! I just saw and installed the new source. In addition to adding the caching you also really streamlined your code. Very nice! Thank you many times over for listening to our enhancement request and for going the extra mile while you were in the code doing it. |
