Hi

I've just installed the Beta from your website. Whilst reviewing the improvements I did note that the top bar is still transparent as stated in a previous discussion (I'm sure you're already working on this). Also the drop down menus from the top bar still seem to go behind the status updater on the home page. Also, when the filter list is on the right, the "Status Updates" option seems to disappear, and the "More" button ceases to function.

I just thought I'd say that the new transparency options for the top and bottom bar (great addition!) have the option "Transparency X%", where 100% means Opaque and 0% means Transparent. I think this should say "Opacity X%", since "Transparency 100%" suggests it will be transparent not opaque. Also the transparency effect for the top bar should really only be enabled when "keep the top bar on screen" is enabled, as making the "regular" version of the top bar transparent seems to serve no purpose.

Also, the "refresh the news feed every minute" could have a user configurable timer, since refreshing every minute may use more bandwidth than is really necessary (for those on limited bandwidth connections). Also a countdown timer next to the Inbox link (see "Facebook Auto-Refresh" script) would be appreciated, as the user may start typing out an essay style comment only for it to be lost when the script auto-refreshes. EDIT: I've just sat and watched it update and it does a much better job than the script I mentioned (I shouldn't have assumed your code would work the same way...). No change is really required, except that maybe facebook won't be refreshing unless the user has the page in the foreground, as the facebook page doesn't seem to check for updates unless that is the case (could someone confirm/deny that this is the case?).

Hope my comments help.

Thanks for making such a great script, Facebook just isn't the same without it.

Hi, glad you hear you like the script.

Thanks for pointing out the mix up between transparency and opacity, I'm not sure how I let that happen. I had to fix it at the last minute and I'm hoping my change didn't mess up the translations.

With regards to only enabling transparency for the top menu when its fixed... I've released from one of my posts that people like to have options and if they have options they'll find good ways of making use of them. So I won't bother to limit the transparency to certain situations.

I like the idea of having an option to control how often the feed refreshes. I'll try to get it into the next release.

Hey, great update, I'm very glad I can have the top bar always on screen again (and now 50% transparent :D). I really do not know why FB don't do this by default (maybe not the transparency but the always-on-screen-ness).

I do however still see 1 bug, when the filter list is on the right, the "Status Updates" filter option seems to disappear, and the "More" button below the filters ceases to function. in the homepage section I have these options selected (An 'X' meaning a tick):

[X] Automatically refresh the news feed every minute.
[X] Automatically block streams for 3rd party apps (use 'edit options' below the feed to unblock).
[X] Move the filter list to the top of the right column.
[X] Move highlights to the bottom of the right column.
[ ] Left-align the contents of the home page.
[ ] Keep the filter list visible even after scrolling down (only available when the list is in the left column).
[X] Show the filter list.
[X] Show the right column.
[X] Show the Highlights section.
[X] Show the Pokes section.
[ ] Show the Suggestions section.
[ ] Show the Connect With Friends section.

Also having an issue where, on the "Friends" (Find Friends tab), chat seems to be going behind the advert on the right, but only when FB puts a huge flashy ad there. Since I block FB chat (I use Digsby) most of the time using a custom AdBlock Plus filter, but have the "Friends" page on AdBlock's safe mode, this only affects me when Digsby is being silly and not transmitting/receiving messages. I'm not actually 100% sure it's your script that is doing it...

If you need any more info I'll gladly assist.

Figured I would jump in here with another suggestion/request

When I click on someone profile I see the link under their name for pictures of them. I usually start out there and I selected the option to display all pics on 1 page. This works great and when I am done with those pics I usually go down to the albums on the bottom.

My first request would be is there a way for you to have all albums load on that page as well so I don't have to keep clicking the numbers to see all the albums?

If that isn't an option and I have to click the numbers to switch pages it loads ALL the above images again on 1 page which can be annoying if there were many of them. Is there a way to prevent all the above images from loading each time I click to get to a new album page?

How very random - I have just logged on to here now to ask for that very thing! Haha

More quick ideas off the top of my head:-

- A button on a persons profile page that downloads all photos associated with that person (eg photos tagged of them and all of their uploads) to a specified folder. Perhaps a "Download all photos" link below the "View all photos of..." link. The same could apply for video.

- An option to replace the "What's on your mind?" text on the home page to be the previous status.

- An option to display full size Profile Pictures in the place of thumbnails on the home page.

- An option to add links in the top bar such as "My Photos", "My Videos", etc. Could remove the "Home" button (Logo covers this functionality) and the button showing your name (Profile button covers this functionality) to make extra room if needed.

- An option to rotate other peoples pictures. I realise you couldn't make it permanent Facebook's end but just for the one viewing for the odd picture that has been uploaded sideways.

- An option to make all pages dynamically fit the width of the browser window.

- Auto-click "Older Posts" when bottom of page is reached.

- Auto "Read More". Posts are never that long as they would take up too much room on screen.

- Auto "Show X similar posts"

- Option to automatically select the person in the dropdown produced when searching. Eg, I have one friend named Lucy, if I type Lucy in the search box and hit enter, I'd like to view her profile but instead it searches "Lucy" as if I wish to find new friends. This could either select the top person from the list or only be active when the list contains only one name, with a new button next to the search box to search for new friends.

- More than 6 "Applications" in bottom bar. Could pull the links and icons from the bookmarks in the list you get when you click the "Applications" button.

- Prevent URL's from becoming excessively long.

- Hourly check of friends list to determine changes and create alert of some sort (to see who removed you).

- Ad blocker with subsequent adjustment of pages to fill void.

I think that's quite enough for now ;-) If I think of anything else I'll make another post.

Thanks BnC

Could I add in one more?

Add in the number of notifications to the beginning of the title of the browser

Along the lines of "(2) Facebook | Home - Mozilla Firefox"

@Balki - I'll see what I can do to make browsing through albums easier. In the mean time one option for you would be to enable automatic loading of thumbnails for all pictures in albums, and then middle click on the albums so that they load in background tabs.

@Burgers nChips - Thanks for all the ideas, I especially like the ideas of showing the number of notifications in the page title and the modification to the search field. However I'm not sure if some of these things are possible - I'm not certain, but I don't think that Javascript or CSS can rotate images, and I don't think I'll be able to modify the URLs without actually reloading the pages, which would slow down navigation.

Also, I don't have any plans (at least not yet) of using Facebook Fixer for blocking ads. I use adblock plus and it works fine for me. I think there might already be some scripts for blocking ads if you want something tailored specifically for Facebook though.

I would like to make a suggestion too.. hope u don't mind: "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/..." check out this address - it is homepage of Boost for Facebook. I think you will only make improvement if you get familiar with it and implement (if possible, of course) the "Download video"-type functions on the General tab, (they had your "remove Facebook |" option!); on the Homepage-tab I like "Move pokes on Homepage"; "Display"-tab is silly and the Beta-tab has your "force https". And because I reeeeealy don't like that addon actually I'll be veeeery happy if you make it possible to remove it from my FF353 ;] ....
P.S. If further translations needed, send notice.. for the new functions mainly :D:D ;]

You have a really great script here. I enjoy using it everyday. I would love to see the ability to keep the 'Suggest Friends Dialog Box' from popping up while adding new friends on the 'find friends page'. This always happens when I add someone who is new to Facebook, or has a small amount of friends. I just feel it should be my choice if I want that dialog box to pop-up or not.

Thank you!

Hi Stephen, I'll see what I can do about that.

May I throw an idea into the pot?...
In the chatbox, you cannot see who is online while your in offline mode...
I don't know if this would be possible to implement into the scripting, but I personally would like to be able to see who is online without them knowing that I am.

Dunno if this would help, but 'bout rotating photos -- http://www.walterzorn.com/rotate_img/rotate_img... I consider this usable.. Vaughan, u have the last word :]
P.S. You don't need 2 make Facebook Fixer FaceAdBlock Fixer.. whenever. ABP is good enough to deal with IMHO every kind of an ad. Thats all 4 now; keep up the good wrk!! Best Regards, S.M.

Any chance you can add an option that will automatically load "older posts" on the news feed when you scroll to the bottom? Sometimes if I haven't checked in awhile what they show doesn't go back far enough.

I'd like to see the option to have more application shortcuts on the bottom bar.

Also, I've noticed that for some reason the colour fixer on mine doesn't work quite right, and there is about an inch and a half space of "facebook blue" on each side of the bar. Also, the links when rolled over just go to the original facebook light blue... I remember it working seamlessly before and then facebook updated, but I don't see anyone else complaining about it so maybe it's only me...?

Wow! Amazing script. I've been able to disable two other scripts because this one has more functionality.
I have two suggestions. One might not be possible, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

The first, can you add a hotkey? "R - Requests page"

The second, which might not be as possible.. when displaying the profile picture, is it possible to display the big, big picture from the album? Right now I get the person's picture, as it looks on their profile page. But if I click on it and go to their album, there is usually a larger version available in there.

excuse me if this has already been suggested
but i was just thinking, would it be possible to move the reply box on messages to a position next to the last message

when responding to long messages it would just be easier if the box was in line with the most recent message, so that you dont have to scroll up and down

and cheers for the great script, its really made fb more manageable

Hi guys, thanks for all the suggestions. I'm not gonna respond to each one, but I will be looking over this thread when I'm working on the script and looking for ideas to implement. If you have any more ideas feel free to put them here.

@Alan - Displaying the full-sized profile picture is not possible based only on the URL of the thumbnail, which is how the script currently works. It would require the use of ajax which would make it slower, and would fail for people who don't let you see their profile pictures album (who are usually not your friends and are probably why you want this feature anyway). I might work on it in the future but I imagine it would be a beta feature for a while and disabled by default.

I would like to add one more suggestion. I would like to be able to change the color of all the text that is displayed in blue to any standard color of my choice. Maybe have 7 or 8 different colors to choose from in the fixer settings menu.

Would it be possible add the option to merge the new Live/News feeds? I don't have the ability to swiftly glance at fb any more. Also the option to hide certain things like new friends etc from said feed. Thanks.

The latest test release (which can be installed here: http://www.code-poet.net/userscripts/beta.html ) adds a couple of the features mentioned on this page including showing the amount of notifications in the title, and hiding certain types of stories in the live feed.

@Dink, I'll think about it, but changing the colours of text/links seems better suited to stylish.

@Burgers nChips, I don't think I will be merging the two feeds, but hopefully being able to hide selected story types in the live feed will solve your problem.

Vaughan, I personally would prefer the idea relating to the chat box I mentioned above more than the text color idea. Neither one of them may be plausible, but they was just ideas that popped in my head once...

Vaughan Chan... Script's Author
FirefoxX11

If you mean the one about seeing who's online without showing up as online yourself, then that would be somewhere between difficult and impossible. As I mentioned, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas, but I can say for sure that I won't be working on that for the next stable release. This is the kind of thing that really should be implemented server-side by Facebook.

Here's an idea that may be plausible...
Add an option to hide relationship stories from the live feed also.

Vaughan Chan... Script's Author

Finally you give me an easy suggestion :) I'll add an option for that.

with the new feeds, you can select the "status updates" option from the left to filter your homepage

for something new, is it possible to change the links on a page to absolute referencing...i know the top menu would be easier than each link of the page...but its annoying that when you click the home button it doesnt go to "http://www.facebook.com/home.php" instead it will eventually looking like this: "http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/home..." along with a bunch of other useless junk in the URL.
