I am considering making some changes to Facebook Fixer's settings but I would like your feedback first.

1. There is currently an option to choose the position of popup pictures (automatic, left or right). I am thinking of removing this option and only having automatic positioning.

2. I am thinking of enabling by default the option to move the filter list on the home page to the right column.

3. I am thinking of enabling by default the option to move the highlights section to the bottom of the column on the home page.

Any thoughts?

1. Yes

2. I don't like that to be enabled by default, a filter list with many entries (mine is 20 or more) should be stay on the left alone, the right column is full with everything else.

3. It's not that important to move highlights to the bottom, but moving event on top is something needed

Thanks for the response. About point 3: Moving the highlights to the bottom should make all (or most) of the other items in that column visible without needing to scroll, or at least it does for me. Have you tried that or is that change not enough to get the events visible on your monitor without scrolling?

I use all three of these items, so they work for me.

Is it possible to have an option to change the filter list into a dropdown instead? That would take up so much less space, and I don't think you lose any of the functionality.

1. Why take away choices? I use automatic positioning, but why would you take it away from those who don't?

2. Leave it as-is. I tried it on the right, but as user Ciante said above, it really doesn't work well for people like me with long filter lists. The idea of a drop-down list is killer, however, and if you could do that I'd move it to the right in a heartbeat.

3. That's the way I use it, but I'm not a big fan of ANY default settings that change things from the norm. People should opt-in for changes made by this or any other configurable script, not have to opt-out.

@ma1achai - Changing the filter list to a dropdown seems a bit unnecessary since you can hide/show the full list. Can you think of any extra functionality that a dropdown could provide over Facebook's current implementation?

@brossow - As much as I like the idea of choice I really have to wonder if anybody actually uses the non-automatic settings - they're really just left overs from before automatic positioning was available. So I guess the real question is would anybody actually miss this option.

I like the option of allowing choices, if it doesn't complicate the code too much or make it unreliable.

1. No - I like having the option.
2. Yes
3. Yes

1. I have mine set to auto, but some people might prefer right or left. Why remove the option?

2. I like my filter list on the left, definitely don't like it on the right. I'd like to see it expanded by default.

3. Sometimes I just turn off the highlights section, but when enabled I put it at the bottom.

Hm... I am person that i like to have choices... i want the 1st choice to be as is...
The only think i want is to be the filter list on the left and the pokes below that... everything else is not important to me. But i would like to have the option to hide them or not...

Highlights is IMHO the biggest garbage on facebook...

The only request i have is to make some option to auto-hide posted videos...
OMG is very annoying that... :(

The Facebook Fixer is a drastic improvement on facebook and a necessity to anyone who has ever tried it. Extremely useful for browsing facebook, as well as making it more visually pleasing. Whenever something on facebook changes, facebook fixer quickly adapts. My only complaint is that it encourages me to waste time on facebook :P

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No. I kinda like the highlights- section, Poke/Invitations/Highlights would be my prefered listing.

Agree w/ TomF on most, here's mine:

1. I have mine set to auto, but some people might prefer right or left and I've considered picking another option. Why remove the choice?

2. I like my filter list on the left, definitely don't like it on the right. I would NOT like to see it expanded by default though.

3. I put it at the bottom, anything other than Highlights (as often a longer list) I'd like to have above, so that I can see those things w/o scrolling.

Maximum flexibility, as is emerging from this discussion, is the best.

1. I personally always have it set on automatic but-- is there anything you would gain by removing the option?
2. No-- I think here, everyone ought to be allowed to decide which side.
3. I have no idea of whether it would be easy to do, but why not give people the option to put the items in the way they see fit. They might want events first, then highlights, then filters, or whatever.

On drop-down: I agree 100% with Malachi that a drop-down menu for the filters would be very, very useful. This is because I also have more than 15 filters, sorting some 600 friends. Facebook allows me to hide some of them permanently, but I don't want to do that-- I want to be able to see them all and click on them when necessary. My filters take up a lot of space and push my events and other things down below the scroll, but I would like to be able to access them with a simple mouseover drop-down. Is it possible?

1 - either way.
2 - sounds good.
3 - sounds great.

But about 1 - the popup pictures are great, but is there a way to implement a short delay before popping them up? So one would have to hover the mouse over a picture for a brief moment before it would attempt to pop up the picture. that way an errant mouse straying across a column of pictures wouldn't cycle through 7 or 8 in rapid succession?

Thanks for the great work!

OK, so based on the current responses I will not remove the option to have popup pictures stick to one side. I will also leave the filter list on the left side by default.
Most people either want the highlights moved down, or they want another item moved up, so I will change the default to moving the highlights down. For the few who don't want it there: Facebook Fixer remembers settings across upgrades (and stores separate settings per person), so you will only ever have to change this setting once. In fact, if you ever enabled/disabled this setting then it is no longer using the default value and you will see no change to this setting the next time you update the script.

@drysdan - I've been meaning to implement an optional delay for a while now, I'll see if I can get it into the next version.

It would be great if there was an option to move the birthdays section to the top of the right hand column as well. Thanks.

Could you make the filter list have a fixed position?

@Mark, in a future version I may try to allow reordering of all the items in the right-hand column

@Dink, that will be in the next release (hopefully this weekend coming)

I really like this script. I am also looking forward to the update (I am having the issues with the Nav bar mentioned in the next thread.) I also wanted to ask about a possibility to have an option to have pics enlarge on click vs. mouseover. I know you can set it to click them closed, but if there was a way to have only the ones you want to see enlarged by clicking on them (instead of auto-enlarged by mouseover), that would add even more functionality in my opinion. Thank you again for this excellent script!
