Before installing and using "The Cavern Links Checker" I never got a message from Megaupload:
(We have detected an elevated number of requests from your IP address.
This may be caused by improperly designed third-party software.
A temporary access restriction is in place. Please check back in 25 minutes or log in using your premium account.)

I installed "The Cavern Links Checker" and finally got it working after going through the disable in enable host routine. After using it at a couple of forums (it worked fine checking links) but when I tried to download a file trough Megaupload I got above message instead of download page. I do have a free account with Megaupload, not a Premium account. So direct downloads can't be turned on (it is grayed out in my preference page).

dbrezlin,
..
Megaupload very recently instituted a policy to limit the amount of accesses a free account has during a specific time. Usually, this only becomes an issue when checking a post with dozens of MU links on a page.
..
Why do they do this? Well, I'd guess it is to save on bandwidth. There is NO WAY around this yet unless you use something like Rapidshare Link Checker to do your checking. RLC uses a server to do the checking which most likely uses a registered account for this.
..
I have been investigating this for a few weeks and have not found an answer for free users as of yet, but I will release a fix when I find out how to work around this.

I also have Rapidshare Link Checker and will try using it for awhile and disabling Cavern. Will get back to you with results.

I still had a problem accessing Megaupload site for uploading and downloading since my last post. I could not download or up load anything without getting an error and then a disconnect, until today, when I reset my IP address by changing the the MAC address clone in my router, renewing my IP address with CMD with the "Run" command in Windows, shutting down my DSL modem and router, and then rebooting my computer. I can now, so far download from Megaupload and will be trying to upload to them shortly. I am afraid to re enable my link checker for fear of getting blocked again.
Do you have, or know of a script that will reset router and IP address for me without having to pull out my desk and crawling around behind it, to find the power cords that feed my router and modem.

dbrezlin,
..
There might be a way to reset your router and/or issue some dhcp commands to renew your external IP address. It's strictly dependent on the make and model of hardware you are using. List the info and I will see what I can do to help.
..
I am also frustrated with MU in general. I'm a lifetime subscriber and still have to put up with their shenanigans. I'll definitely post any information I can find on how to better deal with them.

I have a Linksys W11S4V4 Router and a Westell Wirespeed DSL Modem.

Also I was wondering if you could include a setting in Cavern Link Checker so that it would not check links when the page loaded, but if you selected the links it would then check only the highlighted ones, or check them with a right click menu option?

dbrezlin,
..
The Westell router has a limited set of options for users. It requires a username/password to access the GUI interface, but I don't think there's command-line access to that model. I've tried to access one before but it refuses both SSH and telnet connections.
..
Your idea to postpone checking is very interesting. I think it is definitely possible to load a page and then link check only specific links. It would make sense to set up the script with a manual option where only mouseover actions trigger LC functions. That way you would just pass your mouse over the desired links and they would turn green or red.
..
Let me know what you think,
yah.

The mouseover is an interesting idea. I would lean to a manual (select and right click option) only because when I navigate a page with a massive number of links I use the scroll wheel on the mouse and would mouseover much of the page in the hunt for the post with the links I am looking for. Or maybe the act of selecting the links could trigger the Link Checker, for that is the last step in grabbing links to paste into my download manager.

Thanks for looking into the router/IP reset issue. If I were to pickup another router which would have command-line access? It's almost time to upgrade to a faster wireless router.

dbrezlin,
..
There is an onSelect event that might work for what you've mentioned. I will look into this.
..
I'd recommend doing some internet checking for your router question. I've only got a limited experience with command-line routers and these are Cisco high bandwidth models, not home routers. I would suspect Cisco might also provide ones for home. You might include the terms "DSL" and "IOS" in your search, IOS being the command-line language of Cisco routers.
..
Thanks,
yah.

yah,

I will be looking forward to this new feature, if it turns out to be a workable solution to the Megaupload constrictions placed on a free user account.

Thanks for the router info. Will add these parameters to the hunt for my router upgrade.

Yah, I don't know if this will help, but I use the add-on Copy Link URL to right click an area of text and then copy only the links from within that area. Maybe there's some functionality in there that would help you achieve the results discussed in this topic. (I love this idea by the way).

Here's the address for the add-on:

I know its been awhile, but was wondering if you have come up with a solution to the problem stated here yet.

dbrezlin,

I have a solution in test, but I am getting mixed results. I will hopefully have an update released as a test version for users soon.
