Versions & Diffs for a userscript

I just wanted to say that I really like the diff feature and THANKS for everything |

I really want to delete old version scripts... |

@Chook: +1 I am terrible at making changes / versioning in general. I'd like to be able to manage it. |

One very logical change to the code would be to overwrite last change unless there has been an install of the last version. This way we could freely edit the head revision for typos and such. |

@Chook, -2 (and maybe even more) There are many safeguards in using version control. Among the many this one stands out in my travels. Trying to "cover up" an open-sourced project by deleting old changes will be a guarantee of loss of credibility. Another is referencing material. Everyone will make mistakes... anyone who thinks that they don't shouldn't be scripting. |

@Marti: It's not "covering up mistakes". Sometimes, I release a version of a script, but then make a quick style / feature addition to the same version instead of releasing it as a brand new version. When someone looks at the diff, they won't see all the new additions from the old version. |

Avindra Gool... wrote:As long as no one installed it... I think it would be okay not to increment your own personal @version, but the internal USO versioning should always be present and accounted for... even for quick additions. Version control is much much much older than even the web and it's a tried and trusted system. |

I'd like the idea of a changelog or even the ability to add a name/version number to the version log instead of having the date and time as the identifier. |

@Jesse: How about a way to compare two different scripts? (Or at least, an API so that we can make such a thing). |

I think a good addition to the versioning would be to add an indicator on the admin page for a script that would display which dates there were updates on. |

Marti wrote:It compares the page source though, and that's basically useless. I would have to open up each raw js file to compare, if that even works I didn't try. |

JoeSimmons wrote:That's why you could use alternate CSS by GIJoe which can open up the raw source :) Also another good script to assist even further is Script Versions Tab by Erik Vold. |

Marti wrote:I really don't care about using the script for anything else, I could just make it run only on source pages and toggle it when I want to view diffs. EDIT: Ok installed it, but it's not showing the raw source. It's still showing all the other elements. |

JoeSimmons wrote:To each their own. I prefer not seeing a narrow screen on my monitors though. Get working! ;) and don't forget attribution to him. *grin* Technically it's Jesse who made the capability but GIJoe has been around for a while and implemented it. I think he asked to have this feature added to USO a while back. |

Marti wrote:Me too that's why I use my style which expands the source to full width but not overflowing, and word wrapping. |

JoeSimmons wrote:hehe. You aren't ever going to get me to install Stylish on a user script forum. *GRINS* |

Ok installed it, but it's not showing the raw source. It's still showing all the other elements.Seems like you didn't found the "view" link (between the "install" and "changes" links). |

GIJoe wrote:Actually I had it disabled for all pages other than scripts/review/* so it didn't run.
I also already made a script to do this... http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/50375 Thanks guys. |

@JoeSimmons: Thanx for pointing to your script - saves me to ask for that option! I also did not find the "view" link between "install" and "changes". Guess Marti was kidding - or using your script |

it would be nice i we could delete some changes, or at least merge them |

vOidSenses wrote:Hmmm this sounds like it might be possible within a certain time frame... a merge down perhaps... Have you tried submitting this to uservoice? |
