A widget to upload emoticons and then use those respective URLs in userscript 'automatically' would be immensely useful.. and of course amazing

this would give: user privacy, and image reliability

Though I doubt it would give (more) "user privacy" and (more) image reliability, I think I understand your concern: What it really would give is more flexibility and personalization. But on the one hand I'm happy with the script as it is - while on the other I can't afford the time required to implement your wish (since it's not that trivial, at least to me). So far to the flexibility. Concerning the personalization: Just take a look at the code, it's very easy to add/change/remove icons.

What I could imagine is to build an interface to manipulate the icon list (like via some HTML form inside a pop-up configuration window - see GM_config Extender in the collection of my other scripts), storing definitions with your Browser Preferences instead of hardcoding them into the script. Would that please you as well?
