I can't seem to get this script to work. I issue the commands to set Chat Alerts On and Unread Coutns On. I have seen the chat alert work once, but I had to be viewing an email (if I was viewing my Inbox, it would not update).

I have no other scripts installed. Any ideas?

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032609 Firefox/3.0.8
Greasemonkey 0.8.20090123.1

Are you notified about new email with the blue icon and item count, at all? For chat, the icon will update when the title updates, which is when you don't have the chat box focused on. Sometimes, Gmail will leave the focus on the chat box and assume you don't want to be notified of the messages. If you wouldn't mind, could you try leaving the tab at your inbox and then switch tabs before you get a new chat message?

Also, a similar script just updated with a fix because of a new Labels section in the Gmail interface. I have yet to read about or see it, but have you noticed the labels section change recently?

I am not notified with a blue icon. Here are the tests I'm running:

1. Send message to my own AOL Instant Messenger name. Remove focus from Chat window to allow Gmail to notify me in the Tab/Title/Taskbar. Results: Gmail Notification - Yes; Icon Update: No.

2. View mail message. Mark as unread. Gmail returns me to Inbox automatically after marking as unread. Results: Gmail Notification: Yes; Icon Update: No.

3. Ask a friend to message me. Change tabs before receiving message. Results: Gmail Notification: Yes; Icon Update: No.

I have not noticed any changes to my labels, but I don't pay attention to them much. I set them and forget them. I only use them along with filters, so you can understand why I might not look at them often.

That certainly sounds like the script is just not locating the element. I've just updated the script to 3.0.1 and would love to know if the change helps your issue. Thanks for being thorough!

I ran the same tests with the same results. This time I ran three additional tests:

1. Friend sends message (Focus not on chat window). Navigate to a mail thread. Results: Gmail Notification: Yes; Icon Update: Yes.

1.a. Navigate back to Inbox. Results: Gmail Notification: Yes; Icon Update: No.

2. Mark mail thread X as unread. Navigate to mail thread Y. Results: Gmail Notifications: Yes; Icon Update: Yes.

2.a. Navigate back to Inbox. Results: Gmail Notification: Yes; Icon Update: No.

3. (This might deserve a new topic once this is figured out, and it may be working as intended) Mark mail thread X as unread. Friend sends message (Focus not on chat window). Navigate to mail thread Y. Results: Gmail Notifications: Yes; Icon Update: Blue Icon-Yes, Unread Count-Yes, Chat-No.

3.a. Navigate back to Inbox. Results: Gmail Notifications: Yes; Icon Update: No.

Wow, that's the most involved issue I've seen yet.

So, you don't have any other scripts installed. Would you mind listing the Gmail Labs features that are turned on or any related addons?

Actually, I decided to search for the offending Firefox Addon or Gmail Labs Feature.

I have found the conflict to be with Firefox Addon "Favicon Picker 3 0.5" found at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/... I forgot I had this installed. Otherwise, I would have checked this first.

Thanks for your help resolving this issue! This is added to my favorite scripts, and I will post a positive review!

I'm glad it was resolved. Thanks for the favorite!
