Auto URL shortener behavior unreliable

I've observed very shaky behavior of the auto URL shortener. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If I paste a link, for example http://beerpla.net/2008/11/08/building-the-perf..., it doesn't get converted at all.

To me, it would make sense if such conversion was triggered only when I exceed the character limit and not before that.

Any ideas?

Hey thanks for the comment, your right. I probably shouldn't get zealous with shortening URLs, I was afraid people would worry about the length of their tweet before they approached the limit.

I'll make those changes.

This seems fixed, it works great now! Did you change its behavior?

Yea, I fixed it and I made it wait till the character limit is reached to shorten.
