Hey,

Idea for quicker access to labels in Gmail : present them in an "alphacloud" combo... a mix between an alphanumeric list and a tag cloud... see the following pic for an example :

http://www.stewart-explorations.net/images/gmai...

(ex.: user has clicked on "S" to display only the labels starting with S)

2-click labeling : 1- first letter, 2- label... then repeat for multiple labels...

Would be quicker than keyboard shortcuts I think and allow for users who have a zillion labels, like I do... ;o)

Comments welcome !

Blessings,
Chris

Uhm... Are you serious :)
How many labels do you have in the first place? I think I use 2 or 3...

Looks really interesting still, I wonder if there are any tag cloud scripts that could be adapted.

Pseudo algorithm would be quite easy to make, but getting it to look just right would take same tweaking.

Edit: Search for words "tag cloud" and you can find many similar scripts. Which of them has most similar functionality?

Hehe... I am serious... :o)

I use labels as folders, so I have plenty...

Will search and look at the scripts and report, thanks !

Hmmm... hard to say, not much info about them... I have a good feeling for this one though :

GoogleTagCloudMaker

GoogleTagCloudMaker makes a cloud around the world that you have searched with google, has nothing to do with gmail. It is like the highlight function of googlebar.

Source code is GPL and looks modular enough to be altered.
Things that need to be modified:
- How tags are extracted
- Where the tag cloud is put on screen

Poligraf: Have you contacted the author, maybe he will have time to make a modified version of his script that does what you need?
I myself am working on too many projects to to it myself.
