not turning red (i found something)

hi,
greeting |

Thanks for the information! I've been hitting my head against a wall trying to figure this out. I'll try the URLs and see if I can break it or get it to modify the markup in a way that breaks things. Peter |

I created a new test Gmail account with its location set to Germany, but the script is still working as expected. I just found that the Markup is different between the online and offline modes, so I'm wondering if it's different when an IP is coming out of Germany (and not just the account location). If it wouldn't be much trouble, could I ask you to load up the test account I've made and email me the Markup that is being generated? If you wouldn't mind, email me at peterwooley@gmail.com, and I'll send you the info and instructions. Thanks for all of your help! |

Hi Peter,

Awesome bjbkk!
I'm pretty sure, with the issues between markup on the online and offline version, that's what is causing the issue, but I've yet to be able to examine the differences myself. Thanks for your help! |

Hi, same issue. I'm on Firefox 3.0.6 on Mac OSX 10.5.6 with the following Labs features enabled: Offline, Tasks, Signature tweaks, Muzzle, Right-side chat, Navbar drag and drop, Custom Label Colors, Mark as Read Button, Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat, Google Calendar gadget. Thanks |

I can confirm that it's one of the Labs features that breaks it. I can load up my inbox with all labs features off, and the icon goes red. FYI, I'm on FF 3.0.6 on Mac OS X 10.5.6, loading Gmail for my domain
On my other Gmail account (not for my domain), the script works. In that account, I have the following Labs features enabled: Quick Links, Superstars, Navbar drag and drop, Vacation Time, Google Calendar gadget, add Gadget by URL |

Okay, I'm running ff 3.0.6, winXPsp3, and my labs-enabled features are: offline, tasks, superstars, fixed-width-font, custom date format, advanced imap controls, canned responses, custom label colors, mark as read button, go to label, multiple inboxes, text-messaging in chat, send and archive, location in signature, and finally, add any gadget by url. I could probably turn some of those off.... To boot, I'm running a couple other gm scripts in gmail: Integrated Gmail w/ Collasible @ minimalist inbox plus google cal etc. I haven't turned everything off and then back on one at a time to check for problems, so I'm afraid this data will be only marginally useful. |

I believe I've solved the Offline issue! I've pushed an updated script (v2.6.1: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/24430.use...) and would really appreciate everyone testing it out and posting their results. Once the new version is installed, please make sure to check your Greasemonkey scripts lists and ensure that only 2.6 is running. If 2.5 is still there, feel free to remove it. This should be the only time you need to do it. Also, there appears to be an issue between Gmail and Greasemonkey when Gmail is sent into offline mode. If the icon no longer functions after activating the icon, refreshing the page should put everything back to normal. I'll have more on this later, as I get a better understanding of what Gmail is doing. |

I'm sorry to report that this didn't work for me. |

All right! Here we go again. Another patch to test out: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/24430.use... I tried my best to destroy this version, but I couldn't manage to break it on my Firefox3/SP3 box. All Google Labs features were turned on (excluding Hide Unread Count, which literally removes the way FavIcon Alerts locates the unread count). I installed the Integrated Gmail w/ Collasible Greasemonkey script and switched between Offline and Online innumerable times. If anything, I am becoming very familiar with the other features for Gmail. Please install the latest version (v2.6.2) and post the outcome. Thanks, again! |
