I think it's pretty brilliant what you did with the icons, turning them into code. I'm interested in doing that myself, and was wondering how you did it.

1. Create the icons in Photoshop, export as Windows ICO (16x16, 8bit).
2. Convert them into an inline "data" URI, using a tool such as http://scalora.org/projects/uriencoder/
