Still not fully working
Man, I still have this problem - as described by the others. The favicon does not change from blue to red when new mail has been read after starting Gmail. Only after a new e-mail arrived and has been red, the status changes, finally.... is there something you could do? |
Sorry to hear it isn't working, are you using the standard Gmail interface or the Google Apps for Your Domain interface? Also, are you using the "older version" of Gmail. Lastly, are you on Firefox 2 or Firefox 3? Thanks for letting me know; I still haven't figured out what the issue is that is causing this. |
Hey there. I am on Google Apps for Your Domain accounts. Having the same behaviour as reported by the others - working after receiving the first new e-mail after loading Gmail (when there is initial new mail, the envelope stays blue until another e-mail has been received and read). I am on WinXP SP3 with FF3. I would love to help you, but I have no clue.

Thanks for the details. I do have one more question I forgot to ask: is the URL you use to login to Gmail in the form: http://mail.google.com/a/[url]? As mentioned before, I can't reproduce this on my own Apps for Your Domain account, so I must be missing some major section of Gmail that is causing this issue. Thanks, again! |
Yes, exactly the URI you have. Could it be that I live in Germany? They have the restriction here to name it googlemail instead of gmail, so gmail.com isn't used... just an idea I had. Strange still. |

I just wanted to let you know that we're working on a fix for Gmail's Offline mode and it may just solve the issue you're having as well. If you'd be willing to test it out, the discussion is over in http://userscripts.org/topics/21476. Any details you can provide about the latest version (v2.6.2) would be awesome! Thanks! |
My problem with it is very simple. it doesn't do anything. The icon is simply a red envelope. Yes, I have Greasemonkey, and I have other Grease-plugins working, but this one simply doesn't. I am running Better Gmail 3 0.7.3, and several other extensions. Are there known incompatibilities? Thank you,

In another discussion (http://userscripts.org/topics/24569) we found that Favicon Picker causes issues. Other than that, I've found few addons that cause issues. Some issues have arisen with the Hide Unread Count Gmail Labs feature. Would you mind listing your active Gmail Labs features and any related addons? Thanks! |
No problem. I am not running either Favicon Picker or Hide Unread Gmail Count. In Gmail Labs, I have:
(didn't realize I had so many!)
There are others, but they don't seem related. Let me know, I'll be happy to list them. Thank you,
Unfortunately, I activated every Gmail Lab feature (save for Hide Unread Count) and each addon you have, but was unable to duplicate the problem. What does the red icon look like? Is it the original gmail icon, or like the one on the about page (with cleaner lines and depth)? |
It appears to be the standard Gmail icon, with the red diagonals coming up from the bottom corners, rather than the grayer lines in your version of the icon. |
It sounds as though it isn't loading at all. Are you accessing Gmail at mail.google.com, or with Google Apps for Your Domain? Also, if you'd be alright posting the rest of your addons, I'm hoping I can find something. |
I have tested it with both a Gmail account and a Google Apps account (I have some Labs feature on the two of them). If Language is set to English (US), it works. If language is set to French (my usual setting), it doesn't work. |
Oh, perfect! I've done tests in German, but haven't tried French. I'll get on that. |
@RolandM Thanks for taking the time to test this out, I've updated the script to 3.0.2 and have tested it with success in several of the Gmail languages, including Français. Feel free to download the update and let me know if it works! |
Great!! it works!! Thank you very much for your work. much appreciated! |
OK, Peter, complete list of all of my extensions with version numbers:
The URL where I read my gmail is https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox Thank you in advance for your continued help.

Evan, do you have "Show Unread Message Count in Favicon" enabled in Better Gmail 2? That seems like it could cause a conflict. |
Good thought, Justin, but no. It's unchecked. Thanks,
In fact, just to be thorough, I disabled Better Gmail 2, and the result is exactly the same. |
I even tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode, and it STILL didn't work. |
However, when I started it after disabling ALL Lab plugins, it worked! now to figure out which Lab Plugin is causing the grief. |
If I disable ALL Lab plugins, it works. If I enable ONE, some of them work, others do not. When one works, if I enable a second one, it does not work. I'll stop now, but Peter, if you can suggest anything that might be causing this... Thank you,
Wow, thanks for testing all those things out. When you found out you could disable all Lab plugins, and it would work, which plugin did you try turning back on? In the past, we had an issue with the Offline plugin, but that has since been resolved (as far as I can test). Would you mind turning on two small ones, like Superstars and Forgotten Attachment Reminder? That way, if it breaks, it may be a conflict with Labs in general, not just the plugins. Thanks! |
I turned those two on with everything else off, and it works. I turned on Undo Send, and it stopped working. I turned off Undo Send and turned on Custom Label Colors, and it didn't work either. Did the same thing with Undo Send, and it worked. Is that helpful? Thanks,
