I know Jesse is always around, but what of Henrik N and Britt Selvitelle? Are they admins? I was looking at some old posts, but I never see them around.

I hired Henrik to work at my startup and he hasn't had much time since then :(

Britt works at Twitter as their lead UI developer guy - so he doesn't have time.

and I have a laptop fused to my body so I have some time for the site :) I'm working on code to make it so the community can help mod itself so unless it is something big people don't have to wait for me.

That's pretty cool. I wondered where he went, but I've seen quite a few active posters come and go since I joined, so I've not really questioned it.

Maybe it's time to promote some other people.

You think the site needs more administrators?

dob Scriptwright

I think Jesse is doing a great job by himself.

I agree. Jesse seems to be a machine at some times... he's a hard worker for this site. We all appreciate the effort you put in to keep this community alive, Jesse. It's probably my favorite site on the Internet right now.

@znerp

You think the site needs more administrators?
I think it isn't a good thing to rely on just one person (aldo he's doing an extremely great job, putting this from scratch).
Even Jesse needs to go to bed and have a personal live. :)

And there can be more then just an admin, there can also be forum moderators or something.

But thats just my opinion. Not to long ago I myself was an admin on a big forum and we had it very busy maintaining it, even dho we had like over 10 staff members.

@jerone: I guess if you put it like that I might have to agree. Every time the subject of moderators comes up (typically just after this site could have done with some), I push for the idea. That having been said though (and at the risk of jinxing it), the site seems to have been doing well for the past few months. Mind you, this intrigues me...

The basic idea is that users can become moderators, which can do things like disable/unlist (and relist) scripts, delete comments, delete spam, ban users, ...

All of which is transparent to users (eg, there is a list of what moderators/admins have done so it can be reviewed).

The specific moderator who performs that action isn't public so that affected parties cannot attack an individual. Other moderators will be able to see who did what though, but part of the agreement of being a moderator is not indentifying who performed the action in public (there will be a private communication channel).

All actions will be undo-able as well. This is important as I make mistakes sometimes and have to undo deletions/... when I get a little too aggressive when deleting spam.

How are moderators chosen?

Jesse Andrews Admin

probably the people who are active in the forums and actively report spam.

Jesse Andrews Admin

Btw, Henrik is still around writing scripts and he has advised with site coding issues as well.

dob Scriptwright

Jesse, how many scripts are submitted every day?
I mean new scripts, not updates for existing ones.

I was thinking it might be possible to review scripts that are submitted by users for the first time.
Or at least match them to malicious things like document.cookie or GM_xmlhttpRequest.
I don't mean making it harder for users to submit scripts, but if they have to undergo some slight security procedure, there wouldn't be that many spam/harmful scripts to delete in the first place.

w35l3y Scriptwright

I have a lot of scripts that use document.cookie and/or GM_xmlhttpRequest and 2 of them were wrongly reported as harmful.

dob Scriptwright

I know that most scripts that use that code usually are not harmful, but in general, all bad scripts use them.

This is nice, you should put it on the start page.

jerone Scriptwright

Indeed, thats interesting information.
You should make a page with all kinds of information about this site (maybe at the end of this year an overview).

Bump for more admins. Spam is staying on the forums and in comments for too long...

Sorry about that. I think I removed most of the the obvious spam.

I've been dealing with legal threats who want me to remove scripts without going through the proper DMCA take-down procedure.

That's what thepiratebay does, lol. Though they've been raided a few times so probably not a good idea.
