Yes, both scripts do the same thing from different ways.
I have already saw your script. I think both scripts have theirs own pros and cons.
I like mine because in case TNT changes anything(as happened in the bank) I can centrally update all users and not asking them to download it again.
My site could be offline but it shouldn't be a problem for most users that don't frequently change the current language.

plus its independent from your site (if its offline for example)
