Some mismatchs in my previous post: "I am grabbing the first paragraph tag of the bodyContent-div tag", "[...]which a DOMParser() will traverse within every dictionary site", "[...]did not contact you before". Did I mentioned Murphy's law. Is that apostroph a catastrophe? |

Hallo,
if the father of this script is interested
in a version of a mod of babel mousish,
that is able to select the src- and dest-languages
with the mouse (config dialog in b.m-style),
and adds 5 real dictionary (wikipedia, websters...you can
add infinite in a simple array), and gives b.m. an expandable
localization of application texts, then I believe he has got
to give me the permission, to put it on my webspace.
Only the wikipedia dictionary is working to 100% (with some minor dropouts),
because the dom-parsing subsequent to the http-request to wikipedia
has got to be individual for every dictionary. For example:
I am grabbing the first -tag of the "bodyContent".
This paragraph is the default intro text of every wiki article.
To accomplish this, nearly 37 lines of code (I am spaghetti all the time)
are needed. Using this nowhere street, four more dictionaries
would lead to a total of 165 lines. So I approach it another way:
I'll rush my troops of wheightwatchers and enforce a diet upon it.
Right now I am trying to put something like "document.body.bodyContent.p[0]",
to every array-field of the dicts-Array, which a DOMParser() will traverse.
Of course the additional array-field is a heck of different for every
dictionary. So I did not tested it, nor did the whole code.
So if you are impatient, than everything you'll see up to now are the
above mentioned adds and wikipedia ger/eng.
I could understand if you don't want to answer at all, because I did the
whole thing myself and did not contact you berore. Murphy's law is demanding,
that you allready got the whole code lurking in your ./home/homer/coding folder.
And are about to release it. Than do yourself a favor and release it. I would
like to see it myself. I did the mod for my own pleasure. Sorry for this
long and surely grammatically flawed blabbering. I am little bit unproficient
and a little bit german.

hi ed! i'm happy that you like my script...but remember that babelfish's translation doesn't a perfect tool. Italian is a complex language, for example if I translate an english page to italian i can't understand the 50% of the text!! |
|
|
this is awesome!! i'm learning Italian and very keen to be fluent in it as i think it's a very beautiful language, and this is helping me in a great way. grazie! :) |

Well, i use Firefox 1.0.7 on a win 2000 pro too, and my version of greasemonkey is 0.5.3 weird weird... Please correct me if i'm wrong, but i have to click on the small babel fish icon to get a word translated, right ? Anyway, my email is bankair (at) gmail.com, may we continue this by mail ? |
|
|
oh...it's very strange...i tested script with firefox 1.0.7, greasemonkey 0.5.3 on windows2000. I never tested ff1.5 with greasemonkey 0.6. Do you use firefox 1.5 or an older version of firefox/greasemonkey? |
|
|
Well, i'm french, so i used english to french translations. (and this strange thing happens also from english to italian, or from klingon to smurf. Any word selected is translated into 'DOC') |
|
|
hi, bankair, from english to italian the word "DOC" is right translated to italian corrispective of "document". From which language do you come from? |
|
|
Hey, nice idea, but i always get the word "DOC" instead of the translation. What should i do ? |
|
|
new revision! i solved the bug! |
|
|
ops...in some sites it doesn't work :( clicking on fish icon to translate make box invisible!! I must discover what's the problem! |
