I can't get this to work on 2 of my computers both running Firefox 2 and Firefox 3. I have the monkey icon on the bottom right and it shows the script enabled. However, it does't show any spam links. What's wrong?

I just posted an update to this script. Its working *great* now, and is more user friendly as well. The [spam] links *stay* marked now even if you reload the page, so you can see what you've already marked as spam.

Thanks to Steve Sweet for his work on this.

I've updated the script to work with the new flagging system. Please try it out and let me know how it works. Special thanks to Steve Sweet for his help on this version.

I'm not 100% sure its working properly yet, so please try it out and let me know.

i've updated the script to the new url and posted it as 1.2 so everyone doesn't have to do the hunt cut paste etc thansk for listing the change, and thanks to the author of this script. i'm trying to help too :)

The reason this script is failing is that the URL for flagging has changed. This script expects the URL to be like:
http://flag.craigslist.org/?flagCode=15&postingID=
where the correct URL is now of the form:
http://CITY.craigslist.org/flag/?flagCode=15&po...

I have tested this on FF3 and it isn't working for me. The script is loaded in Greasemonkey and enabled. I see the "spam" links before the CL listing links, and when I click on "spam" it changes to a red check mark. However, desired side effect of flagging that ad as spam is not happening. I have confirmed that using this script to flag an ad as spam is not submitting a flag "vote". Just as many additional votes are needed for the ad to be removed when voting with this script than if it wasn't used.

Do others have test results? This script doesn't seem to work for me.

I posted two test messages on Craigslist.
Daily, I flagged each message once, using spam buttons to flag one message, and Craigslist usual buttons to flag the other.

The spam button posting remains up, and the "Craigslist flagging buttons" brought the posting down in three trys

I have enabled Greasemonkey and am using FireFox 2.0.0.16.

Have others tested this script?

This ad on does not work, is there one that does?

Um. I only had to enable the craigslist spam buttons script. Duh me!

Thanks again for this script Ryan. It was your site that I had seen this before. Good work there!

I do have one question though. We get so much spam on our CL site. We've done lots of research on the whole flagging thing while having to deal with so much non stop spam.

I'm concerned that along with CL logging IP addresses to ensure that each person can only flag an ad once and to prevent flagging abuse I think CL now might also log flags by the cookie they leave on our computer when we flag an ad.

So, my concern is that when we flag an ad using craigslist spam button script with the flag buttons outside of the ad, cl doesn't leave a cookie on our computer and therefore I think they might not count that flag.

Also, I notice there is a slight difference in the flag link since CL change the look of the flag buttons. I wonder if that would make any difference in the flags being counted. Here is the link with the script for craigslist spam button link outside the ad:
http://flag.craigslist.org/?flagCode=15&posting...

This is the flag link when flagging from inside the ad:
http://yourcity.craigslist.org/flag/?flagCode=1...

Does the difference in the links make a difference in whether or not flag is counted?

Thanks again.

First I'd like to thank you Ryan. I saw a post of yours somewhere I believe sometime last year when you just finished this script. I had forgotten the name of it and could not find it since. I followed a link on craigslist to find this forum. Thank you again!

Could you help me set this up so that I can use it or give me a link for the instructions. I have no idea how to use this brilliant script. I need it to flag massive spam in my area.

I've installed Greasemonkey add-on.

I've installed Craigslist Spam Buttons v1.1 successfully.

Or can someone please tell me step by step how to use it? I cannot find how to do a search for instructions nor for this script

What do I fill in for "name", "namespace" and "desription"?

What should go into the "includes (one per line)" box? This is what's in it now: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/7399#commen... I leave that there, correct? I don't add anything else in that box, correct?

What is: http://*.craigslist.*/* in the "included pages" box in the "manage user scripts" option? Do I put the search link that lists the ads I want to place the flag keys on there in place of the "http://*.craigslist.*/*"?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you so much! I'm sick of seeing our small, local CL cluttered by stupid automated spam. And it was just annoying and tedious to try and flag it manually.

I can't seem to install it on XP Pro nor Vista Home. Any advice is appreciated.

Exactly the script I came looking for, thanks!

I've posted a new version of this script. I've moved the spam buttons to the front of the links, and I now make the request in the background for you. So instead of just a simple link taking you to the spam-flag page, now that is done in the background; you never leave the listing page.

The [spam] changes to a red checkmark when you mark it as spam.

I see craigslist has changed the look of the site a little, which has changed how my spam buttons look (they relied on a css file on the CL site).

Will try to get that updated soon. Gary your suggestions are good, I had thought of both of those while developing this script. Its just that both of those will take more than a little time to implement. :-) But I may get around to it.

One more suggestion if I may be so bold:
- After hitting the spam button, effectively auto-click on the "continue browsing" link of the "thanks for flagging" page. That page annoys me as much as the spam! I just want to mark as spam but stay in the category list. Thanks!

Thanks for your work, I love it! Suggestions:
- Put the button at the beginning of the line
- After clicking, make the link show with the "link has been clicked on" color if that is possible.
