Thanks, Top Tomato. CNN are just being sloppy. The aspect ratio is, in fact, correct (16:9, I believe) when they're broadcasting from their "online" studio. But for content, which is originally TV broadcast, they prefer not to crop, so they "scale". I've seen on occasion them showing a split-screen with one half studio feed with correct proportions, the other squashed TV feed. They don't seem to care about such "minor" quality issues. |

This script is fantastic! I really don't understand why people are so obsessed with stretching out images to fill a long aspect ratio. I can't stand seeing distorted images. |

Eh, I just updated it yesterday (an hour before you posted this comment), because of changes made to the CNN's page. Did it break *after* the update for you? Did you try the updated version? |
