I created a modified version of your script for my local library system (and was able to shorten the search url) which is available at http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/14755 Thank you for providing this.

I think you can shrink your search url down to something like:
http://http://catalog.XXXX.net/ipac20/ipac.jsp?...=" + escape ( thisLink . text );
