As of right now, I see that gmail has an option to disable web clips.

Go to Settings > Web Clips, and uncheck the box.

now you have to change _fb and fb to rh; after that it works!

It now seems that gmail doesn't provide the option to hide the clippy ads anymore and thankfully this userscript works like a charm.

Gmail now offers the option to hide clippy ads.
