Hi Britt:
I see you fixed probably hours after I posted my bug report. It's working great now. I saw in the code that it was hardcoded for EN-->ES and then on your site that it's an acknowledged deficiency. I found on your site:
>>Britt said 40 days later:
I’m going to update this very soon to make this easier, but for now just change the line:
url: ‘http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr?lp=en_es&text=’ + text,
where en_es are the from -> to language codes.<<

I'm not sure when it was 40 days after but it sure would be nice to have a way to change the from-to languages from the Firefox UI.

just for fun, here's the above in French after changing the script to en_fr.

Ok, it should work on all bodies of text now. Only remaining problem is that is sucks together multiple lines. This is a problem with how babelfish returns their data. (Please babelfish! Public api!)

It's junking out on some certain text ... can you post the text you were trying to translate?

Minor: I'm using InFormEnter. Now when I click inside a textbox (eg. this one) where previously there was a single arrow icon it now gets doubled - ie. two icons appear.

Using greasemonkey 0.5 beta I see the babblefish. Let's try saying it in French.

Nope the wheel just spins ... any console errors? ...

This error when I click the babble-fish ...
Error: responseDetails.responseText.match("px..(.*)..div") has no properties
Source File: chrome://greasemonkey/content/dochandler.js
Line: 374

Also this one:
Error: redeclaration of const kSaveAsType_Complete
Source File: chrome://browser/content/contentAreaUtils.js
Line: 156

but that appears to be related to trying to click in the console sidebar itself.

thanks, I forgot about GM's security issue... I'll wait for version 0.4 and will give a try to Babelfish user script then. :-)

coquelicot,

Greasemonkeyed 0.3.5 is the crippled version that removes all GM_* functions. This script relies apon GM_Xmlhttprequest to fetch the babelfish data.

It should work again after Greasemonkey 0.4.0 is released (which fixes the big security hole).

I can't make it work on my system (Linux, Firefox 1.0.2, Greasemonkey 0.3.5). I get the "spinner" on the right side of the form but I that's it (Babelfish website is up, I've tested it).
