Why is this not in Reader as a setting already?

This is one of the first things I install when I do a fresh Firefox install.

Google Reader Quick Links FTW. This is the definitive script for Google Reader. Keyboard navigation through posts, including quick and easy enumeration and opening of links. Best of all: links open in a tab *behind* your current tab.

Hi Ben.

I've just installed Google Gears and it seems there are 'interferences' with this script.
The small icon that controls switching between online and offline modes (that should be in the top-right menu of Reader, between the email account and the settings) is not displayed when Google Reader Quick Links is enabled.

Just noted this, and didn't look at the code yet to try to understand why.

F1 is hardwired to Help for Windows users. Is it possible to move this to another Key or make the key a variable which can be modified by users?

the only difference comparing to the original script is that shortcuts are changed in order to make the script work with the "Find as you type" Fx's feature enabled.

new keybindgs are the following:

press F1-F1 to enumerate links;
press F1-# to open the link number # (e.g., F1-5 opens the link number 5);
and press F1-F2 to open the url of the original message.

Once it is done, I will modify the Google Reader Block Links page to inform about the update in the original script.
As there are people who have installed the script, I would rather keep the page on.
Would that be fine?

no reply here, so I am posting the extended script as a *new* script named "Google Reader Block Links".

I have extended the script as follows:

1) Added support for handling post with more than 10 links. Pressing keystroke f+l multiple times will move by blocks of 10 consecutive links, tagged [0-9] as in the original script. At any give time, only a subset of 10 links will be available. Blocks will restart from top when the last link in the post is reached.

2) Added secure (https) versions in include directives.

I'd like to submit the script and I wish Mr. Beckwith could comment if he prefers to have it as a update to his work.

dsjkvf, you need to go to Firefox Options->Advanced. Under the General tab-> Accessibility, uncheck "Begin finding when you begin typing". Works for me.

the same situation under Win XP / Fx 2.0.0.1

strange, but it doesn't seem to work for me: i see no numbers on links (should i?) and pressing 'f' just makes Find As You Type to start.
