works on older version only

I've uploaded a new version. This has merged in Tom Spear's fixes (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6237). I've named it v1.0. Note that this still only works with the original Gmail UI. I'm working on a separate version of this script for the Gmail2 UI.

Sorry for the comment spam, but I finally worked out the bugs by shrinking the font size of the displayd items, so if you want to try it, it now works properly.

After further examination of the script, it appears that it is definitely a bug in GMail's layout, however one of the fixes involves removing an extremely often-used button (the Archive and Remove label buttons).. The other fix involves relocating the displayed items information to the end of the next line (in the html code of the page), but with my limited knowledge of javascript, that code only works about half the time. If you want to try it out, visit http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6237, however sometimes the displayed items section on the top bar will appear above where it is supposed to, and the bottom bar rarely ever works.

@xafwodahs: To change the editor to something else, type in the firefox address bar "about:config" (without the quotes), and search for greasemonkey. One of the options will read C:\\WINDOWS\\NOTEPAD.EXE .. Delete that path, and go back into the config for GreaseMonkey. Click the Edit button and it will prompt you for what editor to use.. Pick your editor from there.

@xafwodahs and anyone else that is annoyed by the wrapping of the # if displayed items, I have modified this script to prevent the wrapping by moving the display to the line where the select options are.

Let me know if you have any problems

I had to change the url to http://mail.google.com/* to get this to work with Gmail for Domains

Really helpful, saves additional click everytime. If yiu are a regular user... means a lot of convinience.

sweet. Don't know why gmail doesn't have this by default.

Couple things:

1. At my browser width, the "Mark Read" button causes the "1-50 of ... Oldest" text to shift to the next line and thus makes the > symbol become misaligned until you move it, but this seems to be a gmail bug even without your script. I just didn't notice it before.

2. I foolishly chose Notepad as the text editor and need to change it since it doesn't do carriage returns right. How do I change the selected editor?

Thanks.

I've just uploaded 0.10 and it now works again with the Gmail DOM changes and (tested with FF 1.5.0.2 & GM 0.6.4).

This script is broked after the latest GMail update (somewhere around March 20). Could you consider updating it? Thanks!

Cool little script - thanks!

Great function! Could it be possible to change the color of the button like the delete one?

Thanks for all the comments! I finally got round to updating the script. It now works with FF 1.5 and GM 0.6.3. I also added the mark unread/mark read toggle that Wayne suggested.

After I updated it I discovered that Chenxin has done the same thing! Oh well 8-).

First of all, let me thank Jim for this great script. I have been a loyal user for 6 months. However this script was broken with GM 0.6.x branch, so I adaptered a new one from the Smart-Delete script. That one has Read/Unread ping-pong button and works with FF 1.5RC/GM 0.6.x. Check it out at http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2196

Would be nice if it was read/unread.

Works great! Suggestion: Make it have dual "Mark read/unread" function, depending on the status of the messages checked.

Worked great w/GreaseMonkey 0.5.3, andloads fine with the 0.6.2. The problem is I believe GMail have updated or changed their site and I can't find a single GMail script that works as of 091205. Other than that it's a terrific time saver, especially when forwarding mail from another account or switching labels!

mattmill User

Works but is there a way to move the button to another position or have it always there? It jumps on and off and I just sent a batch to the spam folder because the archive button moved to the right.

donely User

The script needs updating, as it only includes "gmail.google.com" in the inluded sites. Gmail has recently been relocated to "mail.google.com", så those URLS will need to be added manually
