Script Summary: Changed the layout of search results originating in AltaVista to resemble the old AltaVista style.
This script is not a successor to the script AltYahooSeach. This script applied to http://us.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs/*, while the other script applied to http://search.yahoo.com/* at a time when Yahoo was actively modifying the appearance of AltaVista search results. The original script -- AltYahooSearch -- is again current.
The script does the following:
- Expands fonts and spacing in the main results area
- Adds a parameter for 100 results per page to all subsequent search requests (without a Yahoo login)
- Adjusts size, spacing and location of the results count
- Eliminates the left sidebar. (Adblock Plus cleans up the right side.)
- Eliminates the Image Results
- Decreases the prominence of "Also try:"
11/13/2010 - Due to a late-October change in Yahoo's style sheet, I needed to create an exception in AdblockPlus for http://a.l.yimg.com/a/lib/s8/srp_reskin_2010102... . I also have exceptions for http://a.l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sch/gr4/srp_metro_av... and http://a.l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sch/gr4/srp_metro_20... .
11/19/2010 - Frequent changes to Yahoo's style sheet may require more general AdblockPlus exceptions. http://a.l.yimg.com/a/lib/s8/srp_reskin_2010102... changed to http://a.l.yimg.com/a/lib/s8/srp_reskin_2010111...
1/26/2011 - Yahoo has changed the layout of searches originating with AltaVista. Thanks for that. The original script -- AltYahooSearch -- now applies only to http://search.yahoo.com/* -- that is, searches originating with Yahoo. I probably will not try to maintain the other script for too long, since I still use AltaVista.
2/5/2011 - Yahoo changed AltaVista again. This script stopped working for me, and I have reverted to using the original script.
