I really like this idea but I found the search button a bit unsightly so I added the following:

btn.setAttribute('value',' > ');
      btn.setAttribute('style','border:none;background:#FFF;')

i almost do not use keyboard during researching - most of the search keys come from clipboard so lack of the search button is something really awkward for me

Ah, OK. After typing, your hand is typically on the keyboard, but I certainly recognize that using the search form as it currently looks might not be obvious to all users. Perhaps we could strike a balance between obviousness and aesthetics by using a nice-looking button ;)

No it does work without a button, but this is not always obvious to some users (I agree though it should be in place anyways). Also if your hand is on the mouse after you typed in your search term its just easier to click.

What are the issues with this non-buttoned search? It is of course a little bit less obvious without the button, but does it technically not work in some context? If so, we could try to fix that, or else bring it back.
