This code was originally derived from the popular YouTube HD Ultimate script. A while ago I decided to pare it down for my own use, since I only wanted a few of its many features. I modified some of these features and also improved the video format detection logic to always gurantee the best possible source. I'm sharing mine because Ultimate was officially dormant for a long time and our scripts have diverged considerably.
Important Note: the higher the video quality, the more bandwidth, memory, and processing power required to play it. As a result, 1080p and even 720p may not play adequately on some systems. This video is a good test because it's available in all formats.
OPTIONAL FEATURES (see beginning of source code)
- use1080p - use 1080p source if available
- use720p - use 720p source if available and 1080p either disabled or unavailable
- wideVideo - automatically use YouTube's built-in wide video mode
- hideAnnotations - those annoying text bubbles people add to their vids
- scrollToVideo - auto-scroll the page to the video window to remove visual clutter
- autoPlay - automatically start playing the video. Note that disabling this will not buffer the video.
- hideControls - hide the player control bar when the video is playing
FIXED FEATURES
- autoselects the best available video format (or best of the allowed formats based on the optional settings above)
- removes all ads that appear during playback
- supports playlists
