By Fae Last update Oct 23, 2009 — Installed 81 times.

Script Summary: Creates a Wikipedia {{news cite}} citation from a Guardian.co.uk news article.

Thumb Thumb Thumb Thumb

Create a standard Wikipedia news citation from any Guardian article page. The script adds a discrete button visible on article pages which opens an in-page edit box with the citation pre-formatted with title, date, author and a link to the article.

The Guardian has free access archives for current news articles and dating back to 1998. The Guardian and The Observer newspapers are correctly identified in the citation.

You may find the similar scripts for BBC News, The Times, The New York Times and Wired of interest.

23 Oct 2009: Added toggling buttons and extended testing for name & date on blog entries.

Example output:

<ref name=Greenstreet2009 >{{cite news
 |title = Q&A: Jimmy Wales
 |last = Greenstreet
 |first = Rosanna
 |date = 17 October 2009
 |newspaper = The Observer
