MySpace Ignore Bulletins
Blacklists or whitelists bulletins from users you specify.
After installing this script, you will see a set of controls on your bulletin page.
- Click "Config" or "Configure" to show and edit the IDs of the friends whose bulletins you want to blacklist or whitelist.
- Click "W" or "White" to show only the bulletins from the users on the list (whitelist).
- Click "B" or "Black" to hide bulletins from the users on the list (blacklist).
- Click "A" or "All" to show all of the bulletins.
You can also add or remove individual friends from the list when reading their bulletins. (Look for the link that says "Add to blacklist/whitelist.")
MySpace Ignore Bulletins was given a 5-star rating (out of a possible 5) by About.com. See the review.
This script is now compatible with the Enhanced Bulletins feature from MySpace - Home Auto-Update.
Frequently Asked Question
Q: Can I always see 10 bulletins per page rather than some arbitrary number?
A: No. The script would have to get the listing of bulletins on the next page (or even multiple pages after that) and filter out the bulletins on each page's worth. Besides introducing issues of accessing data that requires cookies, the script would become much slower.

That would rock. I got another idea if you don't want to actually utilize two separate lists. You could still use one list, but just add some sort of marker to have the code differentiate whether the added user is in the whitelist or blacklist. Then just add an option button or tab on the editor so the user can select if the new addition is black or white. After that it's just a matter of parsing for that marker. =) |

That's right, there's only one list. It works well for most people. But if more people ask for that feature, I'll try to add it. |

Would it be possible for the script to have 2 separate lists (black and white)? Some users I never ever want to see their bulletins in my list no matter what (blacklist), while there are times when I'd like to click the whitelist button to see only the bulletins of people I add to the whitelist. From what I can tell it currently only uses one list, so you can only either add people to blacklist OR whitelist? |

As I've said in previous comments, this would probably be possible, but I'm not sure how I would do it, and it would definitely slow down the script. |

It worked, thank you very much! |

Apparently the forum software doesn't like long pseudo-URLs. Replace the instances of "..." with "space". |

Enter about:config in your address bar and go to the preference called: greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://www.theworldofstuff.com/greasemonkey//My... Ignore Bulletins.show If it's there, set the value to only_specified (to whitelist), not_specified (to blacklist), or all (to show all). Then restart Firefox and ensure that the change has stuck. If it hasn't, you may need to create a file called user.js in your Firefox profile folder and enter the following line into it: user_pref("greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://www.theworldofstuff.com/greasemonkey//My... Ignore Bulletins.show", "not_specified"); replacing "not_specified" with a different setting if you prefer. That setting will then be the default when you start Firefox. |

The script seems to keep switching back to showing "All" bulletins instead of only showing the ones I allow. Is there a way to fix this? It happens everytime I have to sign on. |
|
|
Just to clarify, my previous comment is no longer valid as the Home Auto-Update script should now automatically work with this one. |
|
|
Yes, I've been slaving over the script to make it work with Enhanced Bulletins, and now it works for me. To use this script with Enhanced Bulletins add the function call to line 194 to the latest version of Home Auto-Update. If it doesn't work, let me know what kind of error message you get if anything. |
|
|
So I keep adding the, "if (window.gm_ignoreBulletins) window.gm_ignoreBulletins();" code to the home auto update script every update and it works fine on basic mode but I was wondering if you knew of a way to easily modify that script so your script works when his enhanced bulletin option is enabled? |

InsaneNinja and I are working to iron out the bugs between our scripts. Other than that, today's version includes alternate row coloring for page themes that use it. |

what did your update today do?? this still doesnt work with home auto update. |

great script |

It seems that Greasemonkey script preferences are saved permanently when Firefox exits successfully. I'm not sure if Portable Firefox works differently in that respect, but try closing the browser right after you create or edit your blacklist. |

Ok, I have a problem. I have installed the scripts and everything on "Portable Firefox" courtesy of portableapps.com, BUT, it has a tendency to crash every now and then. And after it crashes and I restart it again, it erases all the people I blacklisted and I have to do it all over again. It's really annoying. Is there a fix for that? |

Actually, the author of Home Auto-Update needs to make his script compatible with mine. But you can tweak the latest version of that script (the Nov. 29 version) to make it work. Add the following line:
after lines 113 and 178. |
|
|
quick ting. you need to make it work with home auto uptade. |

Mia, having a large number of friends wouldn't affect the functionality of the script. Having a huge number of friends on your blacklist/whitelist might. I have about 20 on mine, and it's working okay. But more likely, you have another user script that's interfering with it. Try disabling certain scripts to see which one might be causing a problem, or compare the scripts you're running with the ones everyone else has. |

Hi Jordan--I love this script! Problem is, it doesn't seem to work on my profile. It works on everyone else's profile in my house but for some reason it's not working with mine. Could it be because it can't handle 3000+ friends? If so, could you please tweak it so it can handle profiles with a lot of friends? Or maybe tell me how to tweak it myself? Thanks! --Mia |
