Script Summary: Harvests metadata from Flickr to display in archival databases.
This is to demonstrate how descriptive metadata in Flickr can be re-used in archival finding aids.
If you're looking at a photo in one of the databases listed below, the script will check to see if that photo is also on Flickr. If it is, it includes a link to view it in Flickr and lists any comments that have been made there. This is a bit of an experiment, and I hope to do something with more of the Flickr metadata in the future (tags, locations etc).
The script currently works with:
- National Archives of Australia Photosearch - try it!
- State Records NSW Photo Investigator - try it!
- National Archives and Records Administration ARC - try it!
- State Library of NSW - try it!
But it could be extended to work with any database as long as there is an individual identifier that can be captured and used to identify the photo in Flickr. There are some more details in this blog post.
