Note: THIS DOES NOT DISABLE CHAT FOR YOUR ACCOUNT. This only stops it from appearing while viewing Facebook in your browser. Helpful for those using Facebook Chat through a seperate instant messaging client.
Facebook does have a method to disable Chat for your account, if that's what you want. Look in the Chat menu at the bottom of the page for the option.
