Stay On Internet Archive

Rewrite IMG SRC and A HREF URLs to point back into the Archive.

The Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) doesn't always rewrite links (particularly for images) to allow the user to stay "in" the Archive. This makes the Wayback Machine difficult to use, and less useful as a historical research tool.

This script changes the links and images to point back to the Archive by default, so that you really get a historic "browsing experience".

Images may appear odd at first, because the browser will try to load them from the "real" site first (before GM has a chance to rewrite the links). A good example of this effect is looking at old versions of www.google.com -- the old images actually still exist on Google's servers, so they show up first, but are then replaced with Wayback Machine errors because not all the Google logos are retrievable from the Archive.

Still to do/Not yet implemented: FRAMESETs and IFRAMEs, and some A HREF links aren't being detected properly.
