A number of new iPhone (and other GPS-enabled smartphone) apps offer the option of updating one's location with a latitute/longitude when posting new tweets. However, it should be remembered that GPS location can be very accurate, a fact apparently missed by those who opt for the '40.680374,-73.978119' rather than the more vague 'New York'.

With lat/long, anyone can get approximate address details via Google Maps. More pervasive is the service offered by www.geonames.org, which, especially for USA locations, will return the nearest postal address to that spot. Then for an ever-growing number of cities Google Street View will provide a thumbnail of the house in question.

This script highlights such usage by automatically converting lat/long locations on a Twitter profile to the corresponding address and map of the area.
