I used Platypus to change the layout of the NYTimes home page, mostly "below the fold." I also run AdblockPlus and a couple of old scripts on this page: New York Times Convert Popups and New York Times Single Page Format. (Click the "newyorktimes" tag to see these.)

NYTimes Layout2 reformats the 3 columns of story links so that most of the stuff that interests me is visible in a single glance.

NYTimes.com subtly changes their own layout from time to time, so I have had to revise this script. This version has worked for many months (as of March 4, 2009) but I have others.

p.s.
This script was the right one to use for most of January, February and March 2009. Then, due to a change in NYT's HTML, we needed to switch to NYTimes Layout3. As of 4/25/2009, NYTimes Layout2 is needed again. I used to recommend that you keep both versions in your Greasemonkey library, then Manage User Scripts to enable whichever one is needed. (See the description of NYTimes Layout3 for more information.) More recently, I have made NYTimes Layout 2+3 available, which does the work of both. I now recommend that you use that one instead of this one.
