A simple youtube video downloader. Doesnt require you to load a new page - just downloads in the mp4 format. It's simple!
There are dozens of youtube video downloaders on user scripts.
Some of them download from youtube, dailymotion, veoh and hundreds of video sites.
Well this one doesn't.
I dont want all the wonderful features - I just want the darn video, and I want to keep watching it unhindered from the time i start downloading the video, till well after the download is completed!
I'm sick of all the over complicated video downloaders.
I don't want the option to download in 17 different formats.
And I sure as hell dont want to have to leave my youtube window to download the video!
Some actually require you to perform a GM command.
Most importantly I dont want downloading the video to in any way hinder me viewing the video.
How often do you download a youtube video without watching it?
And how often do you watch an entire youtube video before you start to download it?
Fair enough - both those scenarios are possible, but honestly I find that usually I get the urge to download a video about half way through.
With almost ALL of the available youtube video downloaders out there you have to leave the page, or the video is covered by a div offering different methods to download the video.
With simpleyoutubedownloader - this is not the case. You just hit download, and the normal download dialogue will appear.
I realized - there isn't just a simple youtube video downloader. They all try and compete by adding features and end up just being annoying.
Before now - I never wrote a youtube download script because it seemed easy and over-done.
But the lack of simple video downloaders forced me to make this.
This is the simpleyoutubedownloader
It does exactly what it says and nothing more.
It adds a clear but unobtrusive download link.
The video is downloaded in reliable mp4 format.
You can download by left clicking the download link, or by right clicking and clicking Save Video as.
The script will not be updated unless for some reason it stops working - so you wont have to put up with the irritating process of being forced to update to gain features that you don't even want.
I checked the last version and ironically it had stopped working!
I have rewritten it however, and tested it on multiple videos - it works absolutely perfectly!
